          • Stop stressing over shitty people

I didn't go to the airport with dad to pick up Bella. I thought I would try to postpone the awkwardness of having the younger half sister who's birth ultimately ruined her parents marriage around.

Instead I laid in my bed, hiding under my green covers and waiting for the familiar sound of a vehicle pulling into the driveway. My stomach cramped from nervousness as I tried to calm myself by running my hand along the back of my beloved cat, Mouse.
Her purring was the only noise to be heard in my small room.

Mouse's head perking up and the sound of tires broke me from my trance. I slowly got up, dreading every minute of it and walked over to my window. I peeked from it and stared like a creep at my father helping Bella out of the car.

I strolled down the stars quickly fixing my black long sleeved shirt and blue jeans. With the creek of the door I thanked whatever god was out there that I had a black cat.

There she was, in all her beauty. She looked different from when I last saw her, older. Her brown eyes, her pale skin, thin body and straight, dark hair. Her name sure suited her. I'd seen pictures of her mother around the house. She looked like the perfect mix of both her parents. I didn't look like our father. I was absolutely identical to my mother. I had curly brown hair, freckles and honey skin. I did have brown eyes, but not Swan eyes. I wouldn't know how to describe my body. I wasn't skinny by any means and I wasn't plus size either. My jeans never fit my waist because I had to size up to fit my thighs. When I sat I had stomach rolls. Sometimes I was a medium, sometimes a large, sometimes a small.

"Bella, you remember Val?" Charlie motioned towards me.
"Yeah" Bella answered.
I nervously fiddled with my necklace as I smiled at her, trying to be as friendly as I could.
"Is Mouse still around?" She asked me.
I nodded, surprised she even remembered Mouse. Even when Bella had still been visiting, The little fur ball was always content with hiding in my room.

But I could see past her smile and small talk. I knew she didn't like me. I mean who could blame her? I was the result of an affair after all. I was the reason her parents hated eachother. It was all because of me. I was the sister she never wanted.

I trailed behind Bella and our father as he showed her to her room. I hadn't seen the inside of her bedroom in so long and yet barely anything had changed.
"That's Vals room" Charlie pointed to the bedroom across the hall.
"In the same place it's always been" I muttered to myself.
Charlie pretended not to hear me and continued showing her around. I decided to go back to my room instead of following them around like a lost puppy.

I sat on my bed with the book I was currently reading and cranked my headphones. Mouse, being the lazy thing she is was in the same position she was when I left, curled up on her favourite pillow.

Despite trying to distract myself with my book I couldn't help but think if I was the reason she stopped visiting. I remember Charlie saying she used to visit every summer. After I moved in she only stayed with us twice, then she was gone.

I had always wanted a sister. Someone to keep me company, to grow up with and share secrets with. But alas, I had no one.

No one except Mouse.
