The stars twinkled bright and the twin moons hanged above enough to make him dread the sight. However, what was once a reminder of his tragedy was long gone, replaced by the stinging ache of wanting to know what had happened in his own world after his sacrifice.
Kevin did not know what the final outcome had become. Maybe it was better that way. Like the Schrödinger's cat, it was better not to find out the truth and stay blissfully unaware whether the world failed or succeeded.
And Kevin had to remind himself this several times.
Stepping back from the railway of the landship, he went back in for the night. On the way back, the various staffs and operators had offered him greetings, ones he'd give a bare nod and simply ignore. The physical traits each person displayed helped him into continuously thinking that they were different, far different from humans in his world.
But that's not to say they didn't suffer as well.
"Doctor!" That irritating yet soothing voice spoke from behind and Kevin forced himself to turn to her at the very least. "...Amiya." She was the very same girl who had woken him up, the same girl unaware of just how much burden she carries. A hero in this cruel world.
"Dr. Kal'stit scheduled a meeting with you in two days but she's changed her mind and rescheduled it to tomorrow morning." The young cautus informed.
"I'll see to it finished." Came his reply. "Send any tasks you have to me should there be any remaining. See to it that you're well rested." Not giving her the chance to continue on with their conversation more than necessary, Kevin opened the entrance to his own quarters and entered while immediately shutting the door behind.
The sight of his office greeted him. Sterile white walls, black tiled floors, shelves stocked with several books, a couch, a coffee table, and a well-lit desk filled with papers filled out but yet to be delivered.
It was slightly familiar, but so foreign as it once housed the personality of someone else.
And that someone was replaced by him. Sitting on his chair, his mind went back to recollecting the previous events that had played out two weeks ago.
-.-
He jolts awake, a breath of frost leaving his lips. The light of what he made out to be from a ceiling making him wonder what happened-
"...ake...m...h..nd" He picked up a voice, and looking right to where he laid. A girl, with hair matching the colors of oak and ocean eyes that reminded him of a legacy that outshined him.
Her hands motioned for his own and against his own instincts, his own grabbed hers.
...
He does not know who she is. Somewhere at the back of his mind sparked a sense of familiarity, but it disappeared just as quickly as it came.
He does not know where he is. He was supposed to be dead. He was supposed to die in the moon a proud death and granted the paradise Elysium in the afterlife. Instead he's well and alive still, in a place he does not know.
Lastly, he does not who he is. These people called him Doctor, they say he leads Rhodes Island, a pharmaceutical company dedicated to treating "Oripathy". He knows that's not who he is. He knows he is Kevin, the former leader of the Flame Chasers and Humanity's Strongest Warrior, tasked with the sole purpose of defeating the Honkai.
The situation frustrates him, and when hostile figures barge into the room with weapons bared, he wasted no time to kill them.
In a single breath, those rushing masked enemies became naught but sculptures of ice. The sounds in the room brought to silence as the rest looked at him in shock.
