Paperwork.

Just... paperwork.

(Y/n) stared at the stack of paper in front of her with disdain.

The amount of paperwork she must read, check, sign, and delegate today was more than any sane person should face in a week. And it wasn't even only for today, every day since the celebration ball was like this, to the point of her not being able to focus on anything else.

It wasn't this bad back when she was still Alberu's assistant. The former King and Alberu's father, Zed Crossman, had dumped every single royal duties unto Alberu nearing his coronation, including the Queen's. She took over the work related to the Queen's authority back then, even if she wasn't married to Alberu yet.

Now that she was married to Alberu and officially had the authority of the Empress, she thought that she'd be used to the work already, right?

Wrong.

"I should've known that an Empire's paperwork is more troublesome than a Kingdom..." (Y/n) groaned as she very elegantly dropped her head to the desk. There was a small stack of paper to cushion the hit, but it still hurt somewhat.

"Are you okay, Your Majesty?"

The unexpected yet familiar deep voice made her jump slightly and she quickly sat straight, desperately hoping that her earlier action didn't leave a red mark on her forehead.

Standing on the doorway, very reminiscent of the way Alberu stood that night of the ball, was the Young Master Silver Shield himself.

True to his habits, he never notified her as to when he would visit and just showed up out of the blue. The ball was nearly a week ago by this time and she'd never heard a word from him during that period.

And with the work she had, could you blame her for not expecting him today?

(Y/n) cleared her throat.

"Young master Cale. Must I remind you of the proper way of a noble, no, a man when he is entering a vicinity in which a lady resides?"

The red haired man in front of her had the gall to raise an eyebrow and lean on the doorsill, as if he was asking her just what was she talking about.

(Y/n) sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.

Just how did her dearest husband deal with his beloved sworn brother all the time?

"Knocking, young master Cale. Please knock on the door and wait on the other side of the door until you are given permission to enter."

Cale slightly tilted his head and hummed.

"My bad, hyung-nim said you're here and have no appointments so I just invited myself in," he shrugged.

A stab of conscience pierced her heart.

Alberu sent Cale here with no worries, not knowing of the turbulence in her heart.

She still hadn't quite mustered up the courage to speak to Alberu about her feelings, fearing the worst might happen. She tried to justify herself by saying she hadn't actually done anything and thus had done nothing wrong, but...

Seeing how casually Alberu told Cale how she was alone in her office and sent him here was definitely a stab at her conscience.

(Y/n) cleared her throat once more, trying to remove the heaviness in her throat.

"Please try to maintain decorum next time, young master. It would do both of us no good if anyone was to witness the lack of it and misunderstand your intention."
