(F/N) took a small sip from the bottle of booze, his hand shook horribly as he sat in Luiza's cellar. The sound of the creaking floor was enough to make him jump, the sniffle of Roxana made him look over to her with fear-filled wide eyes. The only light in the dimly lit cellar was from the fire that had been built. A small group of no more than 10 people were gathered around the fire. Everyone was terrified.

The sad part was, he was the one who was handling it the best. They were all that was left of their village. The rest had been torn apart by those...things. (F/N) had never seen anything like it. One moment, he and his father had been repairing their fence to protect the crops for the winter. Then the sun seemed to disappear, the sounds of that old hags cackling and claiming that the village was doomed. Finally, those things came.

They came from everywhere, monsters. They looked like men, but they weren't. They looked like wolves, no, demons. Demons that Mother Miranda had sent to punish the village, for what  (F/N) didn't know.

All he knew was that one of those monsters was enough to overpower him and his father. (F/N) was thrown away while his father was devoured right in front of him. The roar of those lycan like beasts would give him nightmares for the rest of his life.

(F/N) chugged the bottle as he remembered that very scene. His fathers terror filled eyes as the lycan ripped open his throat. His crimson blood staining the white snow. The monstrous beast bearing it's blood red teeth, he had no idea how he had gotten away. (F/N) stifled a sob, his shaking was only growing worse. Those things would find them, it was only a matter of time. The small group of villagers was all that was left of the village he had lived in for his entire life. It could only grow worse. He let out another sob.

Anton spat on the ground, "Put a sock in it boy...there's no point in sobbing...it won't change anything," he muttered under his breath as he chugged on the bottle he had taken from the cupboard. Anton was known as the village drunk, the fact he had made it down here only served to piss everyone off. Their family members had died while the drunk survived.

Luiza hushed him, "Enough Anton...obviously Mother Miranda has forsaken us...she's chosen to cleanse the village because of its lack of faith."

(F/N) nodded as he looked at Luiza, "Yes...That...that must be it..." He was so terrified, that he needed to believe that there was a way out of this. Luiza looked at the villagers, "Let us all pray."

(F/N) found himself standing and taking the older woman's hand. He was still shaking as he was forced to look at his clothes. His already tattered jeans were covered in his fathers dried blood. He took a deep breath as the other villagers came into a prayer circle.

Roxana took (F/N)'s hand, she hadn't stopped crying since she had gotten there. Her husband had been slaughtered right in front of her. He was the only family she had left.

(F/N) closed his eyes as the group chanted their prayer. He didn't chant with them. He could only silently beg Mother Miranda to forgive whatever he had done to insult her or one of the lords of the village. He had only seen Lady Dimitrescu when she came through the village to collect a new servant. She had taken Elizabeth, one of the older women in the village. The other lords kept to themselves.

Everyone considered it a curse to be selected to be a servant for the House of Dimitrescu. No one could prove anything, but rumors were rumors. And the rumors suggested that Lady Dimitrescu was a cannibal who consumed her help.

Regardless of what the truth was, no one saw Elizabeth ever again. Thus the rumors only grew worse.

The prayer ended, but no one's faith was restored. (F/N) slowly sat down again and sunk back into the table. He was about to start crying again, but then he heard it: two loud gunshots. The other villagers all looked up in shock. Then there was a loud scream from outside. (F/N) swallowed as he stood up. The villagers started cowering and looking to each other for guidance.
