Chapter 1 - What A Nice Welcome

"Ember Graves." I heard my name being whispered around the hall, what a surprise. I brushed my jet black hair out of my pale grey eyes, and stared at the floor as I walked up the stairs to the Sorting Hat. I ignored the stares, the points and the gasps of everyone in the hall, I simply lifted up my robes so that I could get a comfortable position on the stool. I shivered as Professor McGonagall placed the tattered wizarding hat on my head.

I shut my eyes, zoning from the outside world as I heard the chilling voice enter my ears. "Look who it is. I remember your father sat right in this spot, one of my favourites he was. Full of anger, sorrow, ruthlessness and vengeance." I gritted my teeth, and clenched my fists, feeling a whole load of hatred towards the stupid, grubby old material. "I'm nothing like my father." I spat, quiet enough for only me and the hat to hear.

"Mmmm....I see. A lot more intelligence and courage than him. With experience you could live up to your uncle's standards...unlike your father." I consumed the information, knowing better than to interrupt the Sorting Hat. Before my father died in late March, he told me that my uncle was my new guardian. But I hadn't seen him since I was born. I knew all about him, but so did everyone else in the Wizarding World. For you see my uncle is a murderer... also known as He Who Must Not Be Named.

Everyone knows that I'm related to the weirdo so they tend to avoid me, and think that I'm going to torture them on the spot. The hat was still deciding in which house to put me in, in my head there was only one group in which I would fit in. It was destined for me to be there, my father was there and my uncle was there...so naturally I would be there.

"Let's put you in....Gry..." My heart skipped a beat, when I heard the foul letters. However he changed almost instantly. "Slytherin!" I took a deep breath and smiled from a new emotion I had discovered - happiness, and the only group that burst into applause was my new founded home. I removed the hat from my head, and raised myself up from the wooden surface. To show the hall I didn't care what they thought, I bowed to my audience, giving them my gratitude for the dirty looks.

I heard one single laugh that echoed the hall, causing me to stand up once more. I pushed aside my hair to reveal a ginger haired boy at the Gryffindor table smiling at me. I didn't return his smile, instead just replied with a monotone expression. Of course, it had to be a Weasley. The most pathetic of all the Wizarding families. I gracefully sauntered over to the Slytherin table, to be greeted by an attractive boy with sleek blond hair along with lifeless grey eyes, a lot like mine. He held out his hand, and I shook it. "The name's Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."

I am in my third year now, the past is all behind me, forgotten as if it never existed in mine or anybody elses life. I still get the usual murmur, the usual whisper and the usual pointing however all behind my back. I guess everyone has kind of got used to the fact that I am different to your average witch. I guess its kind of freaky that I am indeed the Dark Lord's niece to non Slytherins, you see my house is used to it now, they all have a bit of malevolence and evil inside them, whether from parents, siblings, guardians, and in my case uncle.

I throw my heavy bag onto the floor, letting the contents spill out onto the ground, all my books splattered onto the floor; The Standard Book Of Sells, Intermediate Transfiguration, The Monster Book Of Monsters and Unfogging the Future. I sighed and brushed my hair out of my face once more before I bent down to pick up the stupid wastes of my time.

However, someone beat me too pick all the magical novels up. I felt a icy cold hand brush past my skin, and I shivered at the touch. He grabbed my books and slung them in my bag before I even had a chance to say a thank you. He offered me his hand, and I accepted it open heartily. I looked at the boy with his dead grey eyes, and smiled as I realised who it was. I felt his cold lips touch my cheek ever so softly, but yet it still sent tingles down my spine. "Hello beautiful." His voice that sounded like it belonged to a corpse reached my ears and caused me to turn my smile into a cheeky grin. It was my boyfriend, the one and only Draco Malfoy.
