The air in the apartment was cool and crisp, filled with the pleasant scent of petrichor that comes with gentle rain. It had been misting the mountain town all day, and Alex purposefully opened all the windows to chase the mustiness out of the space. Steph was bringing more of her things over tonight after her show, and Alex couldn't wait to spend the night with her again.
It had been weeks since Alex escaped a horrendous fate in the mountains overlooking Haven Springs; weeks of healing, thriving through the turmoil of the effects of lies and corruption she had to face to find the truth about her brother's death. Weeks of falling deeper in love with his –now her—dearest friend. Alex couldn't imagine how she would have made it without her; and it amazed her how much Steph cared for her with no other reason than truly because she's...Alex. The empathic ability didn't scare her away, her tormented past and anxiety struggles didn't chase her away. Her touch, her kiss, the way she looks at her...Alex had never felt so loved in her entire life. Finally, she had the life she had fought for. To just live .
Alex's heart pounded suddenly at the sound of keys rattling at the apartment door, revealing her long awaited company's presence. Steph opened the door and gave her a smirk that made her knees shake ever so slightly.
"Hey babe. Smells a lot better than this morning, your plan worked." She leaned in for a sweet kiss that went on for longer than either of them intended, but certainly didn't mind. "Wanna hear something fucking pathetic?" She grinned sheepishly.
Alex nodded and kissed the tip of Steph's nose as she wrapped her arms around her shoulders, moving closer. Steph lowered her head and rested her chin against Alex's shoulder.
"I missed you all day." She closed her eyes and smiled as she both felt and heard Alex giggling at the confession.
"So pathetic. It's not like I was counting the seconds, either, or anything." Alex scoffed, then quietly shrieked as Steph pressed a kiss to a ticklish part under her ear.
"Ready to get undressed? I mean unpacked! Shit." Steph winced, knowing full well that she was in for it now.
Alex leaned back and bit her lower lip in a way that made Steph almost drop her. Both their eyes held a hunger within them that could only be satisfied by one thing.
Remarkable that a mere slip of the tongue could cause such a reaction between them.
Alex took hold of the zipper to Steph's jacket as her eyes narrowed mischievously. "I think *unpacking* can wait, can't it?" She smirked, her tone a dangerous suggestion.
Steph knew instantly the answer was 'yes, absolutely. Anything else can wait'. So, she nodded soundlessly.
Her eyes followed downward as she watched Alex pull it open. She brushed a few fingertips along Steph's hip line as she reached around her lower back to bring her closer, the hand remaining on Steph's shoulder gently cupped the side of her neck, thumb tracing her jaw line almost menacingly slow. Steph couldn't help but shudder and close her eyes as sense of control left her. Alex's touch could bring her to her knees –they've learned from experience.
A breathy, light sigh from Steph earned a cheeky smile from Alex, who wasted no time in sliding the garment off. She littered warm little kisses from Steph's collar bone up to her ear, and with a few words elicited another whimper from the town's supposed badass DJ, who tilted her head in submission.
As Alex released her and backed away, Steph opened her eyes to intently watch and follow further into the apartment. She clumsily fumbled for her belt buckle and every other mechanism for removing her jeans as fast as possible. Alex giggled at her eagerness and slid her own shirt over her head.
