Chapter 6: Ren's Match

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first match of the Diamond Tournament. I, Subaru Akatsuki, will be your commentator for today. Please welcome our contestants, Ren Nakamura, and Jin Satou"

Loud cheering can be heard from the crowd.

"In one corner we have, the Tier 2 Ren Nakamura. And in the other corner we have the Tier 5 Jin Satou"

Wow really? That was kinda unnecessary man. You didn't have to destroy my confidence like that even though I already knew that. And just like that, the amount of gossip spread like wildfire. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I'm pretty sure they were talking about how I didn't stand a chance against this guy.... I mean, he even looks menacing, white haired and red eyes, come on, that screams terrifying already.

"Oh. Um excuse me, I forgot to store my phone in the locker, can I go and do that now? Ren-san if you don't mind?"

"Oh. Uhh...sure I have no problems with it"

"And it looks like we are off to a slow start in the Diamond Tournament folks, a slight drawback but that is completely fine."

Oh. Apparently not. He's not as menacing as I thought. He seems like a nice guy, although he looks a bit intimidating, he's a nice guy.

"And he's back. Contestant Jin is back. Are you completely ready now, Contestant Jin?"

"Yes, I'm ready now"

"Alright then, now. BEGIN!"

Hmm... I don't exactly know what his ability is... which is kinda a big problem. Since I don't know his ability, this could be a big problem because I don't exactly know how he's going to atta-

"Oh?! Contestant Ren swayed left? What are you doing, Contestant Ren? This isn't a dancing competition, you know?"

What exactly are you talking about man? Didn't you see that I got slashed...huh? Jin hasn't moved? What hit me? I'm pretty sure I got cut... Unless I was just imagining it...? No. There's no doubt that something hit-

"And again! Contestant Ren swayed right this time! Ren, you do realise this is supposed to be a friendly fight, right?"

I think I get it. His ability is to be able to control something that is invisible to the naked eye, but what is it? I need to figure this out. I think I got his attack pattern down though, unless he decides to mix up his attacks, I think I know where he's going to strike next.

I pay attention to Jin, carefully looking at the very minute things he does. I can't really tell if he's going to do anything, his Geki feels very calm and tame and not even the slightest bit hostile. He has his hands in his pocket too, so I can't tell what he's doing with his hands either. This is going to be a bit of a problem... I close my eyes and try to focus for the slightest bit of change in his Geki.

There! I dashed backwards and I see the air get very slightly distorted at where I just was.

"Oh? What's this? Has Contestant Ren decided to start running away? Wait a minute folks! I'm not sure if all of you can see it, but the air has become distorted where Contestant Ren was. Has Contestant Jin revealed a glimpse of his ability?"

I think I know what his ability is. He can manipulate something in the air, be it the air itself or something that air contains. For now, I'm going to assume that he can control the air itself. Now. This is quite a problem, although I might be able to detect when he's going to attack me, I have no idea how to counterattack, because he can attack me from a distance, but I can't do the same. I must approach him otherwise I can't counterattack. I can feel another attack coming so I dodge that and run towards him. I see his face slowly changing from being expressionless to one being a bit surprised. He takes his hands out of his pocket and holds his right hand in front of his face. I dodge with the assumption that he's going to attack me, and I run towards him at full speed- gah!
