Kelani was a normal girl, as far as she knew.
This didn't mean she was like her peers. It just meant that she was used to her life.
Kelani had no memory of feeling empathy towards people, even her own family. Her family were worried of this.
She had friends growing up, but none of them stuck with her.
Except for one. A girl named Zia.
Zia was an interesting person. As a child, she would've been seen as a bratty, spoilt princess. But something switched on her 11th birthday. She wasn't sure what, but she just felt.. different.
Zia knew she was different, ever since she could think. After all, her parents always discussed her future. Specifically - marriage.
They'd talk about how they looked forward to seeing her get married to handsome, wealthy man.
The idea of marrying a man, made Zia feel ill.
Kelani didn't know that about Zia.
Zia and Kelani had been best friends ever since they were four years old.
Until, Zia had to move away. They were only six years old at the time, but it felt like the end of the world to Kelani.
Kelani refused to speak to anyone from that day forward.
Nobody questioned it. They just assumed she was shy, going through a phase.
Until one day, Kelani met her soulmate once again, when they were twelve years old
