Chapter 2:
That night was terrible. I just wanted to turn around and go crawl into my warm, cozy bed with the tie dyed blanket. But I couldn’t. That would defeat the whole purpose. I slept on a park bench. Wrapped up in the only blanket I could fit into my tiny traveling confinements. I shivered all night, and didn’t sleep a minute. Every sound kept me alert as a watch dog. As soon as the sun peeked over the horizon, casting a low glow all over the park, I dragged myself off of the horribly uncomfortable bench and neatly folded my blanket. I trembled a little and pulled my thin black wind breaker tighter around my body and walked towards the bus stop. I caught the first bus at 3:30 am, for 50 cents, all by myself. The driver dropped me off at the teeny tiny train station, which was the only way out of my sleepy town. At about 5:00 in the morning, I got on the train to Atlanta. The train ride was warm, peaceful, and long. That is where I caught up on my sleep. Reclined back on the rough blue train seats, I slept like an infant.
I woke up to the sound of the speaker squawking the names of the upcoming stops.
“Next stop, Atlanta.” The rusty metal box yelled.
I sighed and looked out the window at the waking city. The sun was fully up now, and the early dog walkers and lazy ‘joggers’ were just starting to emerge from their houses. Finally, the train pulled into the dark Atlanta train station. I stood up, stretching my legs briefly, grabbed my bags and hopped off of the train. I exited the station and took a good look around. It was my first time out of my tiny town and the view was amazing.
But sometimes, everything isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.
