The day passed by in a blur. After 4 painstakingly long classes, it was finally lunchtime. I walked as fast as I could to our lunch table. It usually got crowded pretty fast. Everyone wanted to eat with Lauren. When I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE. Of course, only the jocks and cheerleaders could sit at our table. It was a classic "Mean Girls" scene.
I pushed my way to our table in the middle of the cafeteria, and plopped down next to Laur.
I was resting my weary legs when Laur hissed in my ear, "Lindsey scoot the hell over, this spot is for the new boy!"
I gave her my best pretend annoyed look. "His name is Shawn, and you owe me one."
Laur started to roll her eyes at me, but stopped when she saw Shawn walk into the cafeteria. She hurriedly checked her hair and makeup on her phone screen, then stood up.
"SHAWN!! OVER HERE!!!" she yelled and waved across the room. I cringed on the inside. Apparently, Shawn wasn't as good as hiding his embarrassment as I was. His cheeks turned a bright red, as he ducked his head and made a beeline for our table.
Laur smiled at him coyly, patting the seat next to her. "You can sit next to me, Shawn," she giggled.
"Uh, thanks, I guess," Shawn was still recovering from his embarrassment.
The entire cafeteria gawked at Shawn. People always asked to sit next to Lauren, not the other way around.
Shawn looked at me. His expression was a mix of "help me please" and "what am I doing here". I laughed, "Hey Shawn."
"So, Shawn," Laur said, snapping his attention back to her, "Where did you transfer from?"
"Oh, you know, I've been around."
Well. That was a sketchy answer.
Laur ignored it, and plunged ahead, bombarding him with questions and flirtatious smiles.
Shawn looked so lost. I tried my hardest to control my laughter, but I couldn't help it. A giggle escaped from my lips.
He turned to me. "What's so funny, missy?"
I managed to say, "Nothing," before I burst into laughter.
Shawn jokingly punched me. "TELL ME!!" he whined.
Laur glared at me. I was stealing her thunder.
With a sigh, I stopped.
Laur resumed her impromptu interview. Shawn kept interrupting her to strike up a conversation with me, and each time, Laur tried to regain his attention. Shawn was clueless as to what was happening. I, however, was not as oblivious to Lauren's jealousy as he was. After ten minutes of this cycle, Laur was in shock. No one ever turned away Lauren Arendse.
After lunch ended, and Shawn left for his next class.
Laur turned to me. "Lindsey you dumbass, Shawn's mine. Stop talking to him."
"Chill, Laur. It's not my fault he keeps talking to me."
"Whatever. Stay away from him until I make him like me. It won't be long."
With a smirk, Laur turned on her heel and marched away.
I sighed. She was possessive when it came to guys.
Actually, she was possessive about everything.
Afterschool, I went to the lockers, where we met everyday. Mel, Steph, and Laur were nowhere to be seen.
She'd probably convinced them to ditch me go smoke somewhere. She knew I was against it.
When Laur was mad, no one knew how long she would stay mad. It ranged from a few hours to a few years. That girl could hold a grudge.
