MIYAGI-DO'S VERSION OF unity meant helping each other with injuries and helping clean up the mess of the LaRusso house, which was exactly what was happening when Alyssa led Eli back inside.

Demetri was sweeping up the broken glass from the kitchen window with a broom into a dustpan that Nate was holding. Stiven and Jason were in the midst of picking up all the Christmas decorations while Mitch was cleaning up everything that was broken around the rest of the house. Chris was sitting in front of Bert at the kitchen table, cleaning up the cuts on his face. Sam had given Miguel an ice pack and was doing her best to fix some of the blood on his face.

Alyssa looked over at Eli for a second. He seemed . . . shocked, watching them all care for each other and fix the house with such gentleness when all his dojo had done was cause destruction — both to him and basically everything else.

"Eli," Alyssa began.

He cleared his throat, snapping himself out of whatever trance he had been in. "Um, you sit. I'll clean your hands."

She didn't have the strength in her to argue with him — not anymore, and especially not now after everything that had happened in the past half an hour. Alyssa sat on top of the counter in the kitchen, placing her hands on her knees as she watched Eli take some medical supplies from the table, not making eye contact with anyone even though most of them were staring at them.

Eli came back to her and put what he got down beside her before taking one of her hands. Alyssa was very hyper-aware of the way the front of him was pressed up against her legs, and the way his hand felt against hers. She watched as he concentrated on her bruised and bloody knuckles. Obviously, there had to be cuts where her skin split open, so when he hit an open cut, she winced.

"Sorry," Eli said. "I'm sorry, Alyssa. Sorry."

This was more than hitting a cut on her hand.

"It's okay," she replied softly. "Really."

He didn't really seem to believe her, but he continued anyways. The silence between them was thick — both of them had so much to say to each other, but didn't know exactly how to say it.
