THE NEXT NIGHT

Yn pov

I had been thinking about the messages from Steve and what Wanda had said and I thought I should really put that theory to the test. He is a good looking guy, in a different way to Bucky, and he seems really nice, although I'd like to have some conversations and eye contact with him. At this time though, I'm not holding my breath.

Wanda, Nat and I turned up at the bar the next night, dressed up and ready to have a good night.

We saw, or rather heard, Steve & Bucky as soon as we turned up. They were up the back at the pool tables having a game. It was the most I'd heard Steve speak the last few times I'd seen him, I was hoping that was a good omen for us to have a conversation or a dance.

Wanda went to the bar to get the 3 of us drinks and Nat and I headed to where the guys were.

My spirits flagged when we walked up and Steve seemed to clam up almost immediately. Bucky looked frustrated too.

We played a few games of pool, jumbling up the teams until I ended up being teammates with Steve - well now he'd have to talk to me, right?

We were playing against Nat & Bucky so I think we're screwed, but if I can get Steve talking to me, then we might stand a chance. I walked over and stood next to him and he looked really nervous.

"So, Steve, any tactics you wanna use, you know Bucky and Nat better than me, how do we take them down?"

"Umm... well... I don't know, Just smash them and try and get a ball in?" He said.

I grimaced at Bucky who just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. The game didn't go great, Steve barely spoke to me, except to occasionally suggest which ball to aim for that I'd have the best option of getting in the pocket.

We lost dismally, we still had almost all our balls on the table when Bucky sunk their last ball. I put the cue back in the rack and stormed to the bar, sitting on one of the bar stools. I ordered a tequila shot, downed it and ordered another.

All of a sudden I feel someone sitting next to me. I look up and it's Bucky.

"Why does he ignore me or barely speak to me Buck?" I asked

"I don't know Yn". I looked at him skeptically

"I call bullshit on that Buck, seriously, you're his best friend and you expect me to believe you haven't talked about it?"

"Well, I know but I told him he has to talk to you."

"Look, I'm going to be honest with you right now.. I don't know him well enough yet, but what I have seen of him, I would like to get to know him better. I don't know if there'll be something between us more than friends, but I'd like to explore it."

"But Buck, I'm not going to wait around forever for him to get his head out of his arse and talk to me. I've tried so many times and I get barely anything back."

"I understand Yn, my only advice to you would be not to write him off too quickly. I might be biased, but I reckon he's worth getting to know"

"I appreciate that Bucky. My patience will only go so far. Eventually I'll need something back, you can let him know that."

We grabbed the drinks we had ordered and headed back to the group.

A few drinks later, I was definitely buzzing, but Steve & Bucky didn't seem to be feeling the effect of all their drinks. I thought to myself, Steve might not be drunk, so maybe I need to use my alcohol bravado to make the first move.
