Dave's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
August, 1991
I've been in this band for almost a year now, and it's been fucking awesome. Right now we're working on our second album, which we don't have a name for yet. I think I heard Kurt say something like 'Nevermind', that might work. The guy we're working with is amazing! His name's Butch Vig. I was sitting behind my drums as usual, we were working on this song called Lithium. I don't now how many times we've tried, but we just can't get this song down!
I heard Butch sigh, "Okay, let's try one more time."
We all nodded, starting to play again. We failed again, which Kurt wasn't happy about. He started smashing his guitar, which made Butch freak out because it's the only left-handed guitar in the studio. I just played drums while feedback and distorted bass filled the room. Kurt screamed his lungs out into the mic, I had no idea what he was saying.
Minutes went by, Kurt fell back onto the floor, out of breath, "Kurt, you okay?" I asked, he looked over at me, "I need a new guitar." He slowly got up and left.
That failed attempt of playing Lithium later became a hidden track called 'Endless, Nameless'.
After a few minutes went by, Kurt was back with a new guitar. We tried the song again, but we kept speeding up. Actually, I kept speeding up, but that's besides the point. Butch spoke, "Dave, have you ever played with a click track before?" I felt my heart break into a million tiny pieces, I think click tracks are stupid, but I guess they can help. I sighed, "No." Butch nodded.
With the help of the click track, we finally got the song done. We called it a night after that and went to the apartment we were staying at next door.
