“I don't want this relationship anymore.”
Those were the words I was served with as her dinner. I sat across from my boyfriend of six years, Mitchell Alfarad at Chibby’s. It was our favourite restaurant and it was rated at three star. He had invited me to have dinner with him and I had followed him in his car straight from work. I had called my roommate, Leah to inform her that I would not be having dinner at home. Leah was a Chinese food junkie and an oil paint artist.
I gripped onto the menu tighter than required, remembering to breathe through my nostrils.
“Mitch, did I do something wrong? I can apologize. I–I just don't want to break up, please, Mitch. Tell me what I have done and how I can make it right,” I beseeched him, reaching for his hands, those beautiful hands that had done unspeakable things to me in bed.
Mitch was a demanding lover and he took more than he gave but I was fine with it as long as he gave me what I needed. I craved human companionship which was why I harboured Leah for free at my apartment. She was basically jobless and could not afford the soap she used but she was a good friend. If Mitch walked out of my life, it would be my fifth breakup in ten years. He had been the longest boyfriend I've had, my personal record and I had hoped he was the one for me. He had a sweet job as a small town movie director and was beginning to go places.
“Kelsey,” he began, in his sleepy, seductive voice that was usually enough to provoke an örg@sm from me. “I asked you to move in with me last year just before Christmas. What did you say?”
I gulped down my tongue, remembering what I had said clearly. We had just finished having mindblowing séx, our own countdown to Christmas. Once we had wished ourselves a happy Christmas, Mitch had banged the snot out of me against the window as we watched the beautiful sunrise. When we were exhausted, we slumped to the floor unceremoniously and there, he asked me to move in with him. I had panicked stupidly and said it was too early to do so. Turns out he had not been impressed by my answer.
“I said I wasn't ready, Mitch but I am now. I just needed some time to think.”
“And you are just saying this to me now because I asked. This is August, Kel; I asked you in December and you are just making up your mind now? You don't know what you want for yourself and I cannot wait for you to think things through for months before I have an answer. I'm done. The waitress will bring your dinner. I paid for it beforehand. Good bye, Kel. I hope you find someone who is patient enough to wait for your indecisions.”
He pulled back his chair and exited the restaurant without saying another word to me. I thought of going after him like in the silly rom-coms I loved watching but this was no soap opera. I, Kelsey Falls had been dumped.
