Jack's pov

I knocked on the door to  Seth's house. After a couple seconds, the door was opened by Seth's brother Matthew. I awkwardly stared at him  for a second.

"Um, hi Matthew," I said, trying to subtly look aroind him to see if I could spot Seth. "I'm here to see Seth."

"He invited you over for his birthday, right?" Matthew asked. I nodded. "Yeah, thought so. I think you were the only one he wants here." He smirked slightly. "He really likes you. Like, really really likes you." My face heated up.

"JACK!" I silently thanked God as Seth ran up and pushed Mattew aside. "Matthew, were you annoying him?"

"Only a bit," Matthew protested as Seth grabbed my wrist and dragged me inside. "Remember, no locking doors or Dad'll get you in trouble Seth."

"You know I wouldnt do that," Seth said as he dragged me upstairs. Once we were out of earshot of Matthew, he said, "Besides, Dad isn't gonna be home until like 10 pm." I barely had time tl process what he said before he dragged me into his room. "Okay, there. We're finally alone." The room was silent for a couple seconds.

"I brought you this present," I said nervously, holding out my gift to him. He took it, sitting down on his bed.

"You can sit down too," he said as he ripped open the yellow wrapping paper. I carefully sat a couple inches away from him on his bed.

"I hope you like it," I said nervouslly. "I,, wasn't really sure what to get you so I hope this is okay.." He stared at the hardcover book in his hands. It was the first book in the Trials of Apollo series, since he'd been wanting to read that series for a wjile. "Books like that aren't really my style y'know so I had to hide it from some of my family but,, anything for you." I trailed off a bit at the end, ending up mumbling under my breath at the last few words.

"It's perfect!" Seth announced, setting down the book and huggging me. I blushed and hugged him back, my heart fluttering. "Thank you  so much Jack!! You really didn't have to get this for me but thank you."

"I-it's no problem," I stammered, my face burning. Why was I so much more awkward and nervous all the sudden?? I tried to calm myself down, giving him a smile. "Anything for you, Seth." Oh God, that only made my heart beat faster. "W-we're best friends, after all." Seth stared at me. I swore his face was slightly red too.

"Yeah,, best friends," Seth mumbled. Something about the way he was staring at me made my heart beat faster. I stared into his pretty honey yellow eyes befoe slowly realizing that we were still really close together. He realized too, and we awkwardly pulled away from each other.

"So," he said. "what do you wanna do now?" I shrugged, my thoughts spinning while I tried to figure out the weird feeling I felt ariund Seth. Before we could decide what to do, Matthew saved us from the awkward silence.

"Hey, you two!" he said, swinging ooen the door to the room. "Are you two hungry? Dinner's ready."

"Yeah," Seth said, standing up glancing back at me. I stood up too. "Thanks again for the present, Jack."

"It's no problem," I said, smiling at him. He smiled back ans we went back downstairs.
