Mr. Mathews' style

Mia's POV:

BEEP BEEP BEEP

I always set my alarm to full volume, and I always regret it. No better way to start a day than busted eardrums and a headache.

I pick up my phone and turn off the alarm. The screen reads 8:00 a.m., I try to go back to sleep, but I get up quickly after I remember why I set an alarm.

My TA job

I finally got through all the necessary crap to become a teachers assistant, and I'm going to be late for my first day.

I practically sprint to where I hung my outfit stubbing my toe on the way. Fighting through the pain, I pull my clothes off of their hangers, and run into the bathroom for a shower

While I stumble out of the tub, I look at the time.

I'm dead. I'm so dead. I'm beyond dead. If my heart doesn't kill me, The teacher I'm supposed to be assisting will.

I have to be at the high school in 20 minutes. The school is 8 minutes away, and I'm still naked in my bathroom. I have less than 12 minutes to get ready and get in my car.

I struggle to get my underwear and my black leggings over my wet body. My plain white T-shirt goes on much smoother. I look in the mirror at my smudged makeup that I didn't take off last night, and my dark hair that's currently in knots.

I quickly wipe off the day old makeup and replace it with a new layer of mascara and some lipstick. I managed to get my hair looking halfway decent, but I didn't have the time to do much with it.

The clock reads 8:20, meaning I have 10 minutes until I have to be at the school.
I throw on sneakers, and a black cardigan to try to look more teacher-y and start looking for my keys.

Surprisingly I find my keys rather quickly, but my luck ends there as I almost fall on my face while running to my car, I seem to be doing that a lot this morning, but I manage to not die by grabbing onto the railing of my porch.

Surprisingly I make it to my car without any fatal injuries, but I have 7 minutes to get to a place that's 8 minutes away. I pull out of my driveway quickly and speed down the road going about 5 miles over the speed limit praying that I don't get pulled over.

I finally get to the school, and un buckle as fast as humanly possibly. I jump out of my car and lock it, then run to the double doors at the front of the school like I'm trying out for the track team

As I step into the school of wave of cool air hits my face and the nice looking lady at the front desk looks up at me. "Hi, I'm Mia, I'm the new teacher's assistant for Mr. Mathews "

"Oh, nice to meet you! I'm Delilah, looks like you're a tad bit late." The lady behind the desk says, pointing at the clock on the wall reading 8:32

Damn it! I was so close."Yes, I overslept. I'm so so sorry" I stretch out the apology hoping I won't get fired on the spot.

"You're all good honey, You're only a few minutes late" Delilah says "who did you say you're assisting?"

"Mr. Mathews" I say relieved, but Delilah makes a face that ruins my relief

"Bless your heart" Delilah's words do not make me feel better at all

"Is there a problem?" I say trying not to sound worried

"Oh, no of course not, it's nothing to worry about sweetheart" Delilah tries to reassure me and it works somewhat "here is a map of the school. Mathews class is on the 2nd floor"

I take the map and give a quick thank you, before hurrying off to the classroom.

I get up to the second floor and look at the map, but I fail to find my location and resort to asking kids In the hallway for help. "Excuse me" I say to a kid at his locker. He turns to look at me, a bit confused.

"Can I help you?" He asks

" Maybe, do you know where Mr. Mathews class is?" I say hopefully, he makes a face at the mention of the name.

"Yea you want me to walk you there?" He says

"Yes, thank you" I try my best to sound grateful.

After a very short walk we come to a stop at a classroom with the name Mathews on a thing in the wall. I'm disappointed in myself for not being able to find the classroom, as it wasn't far from where I was searching." Good luck with him"
The kid says before he walks off. His words don't leave me very hopeful, but I try to keep my chin up anyway as I walk into the classroom.

The class is quiet when I walk in. Some kids have their noses in books others have laptops." Hi I'm Mia, I'm your new TA!" I try to sound excited but he looks at me disgusted and I'm already worried

Mathews POV:

I don't want a TA, actually I was going to ask not to have one when I got the email that the school got me a TA.

I'm a capable adult and I don't need some 22 year old girl to help me with my class. A TA just sounds like a distraction And I have absolutely no desire for one.

I tried to call and have her put somewhere else but the principal is set on her being here, he said that it would be nice to have a new face in my room because I'm getting a 'bad reputation' with the kids or something

I can't see why the principal doesn't understand that these kids need a strict and enforced learning experience and the other teachers are letting them slack off. None of these kids are going to get into a good college when they don't do any of their work.

But no, I get told I'm too strict, and too mean, And they put some fresh out of college child in my room. A fresh out of college child that can't even be on time. My room is filling up with kids It's almost class time and my TA is nowhere to be found.

The clock reads 8:30, meaning it's time for class to be starting, but I can't start class because this girl isn't here yet. I tell my students that we have some quiet time to read or do homework And they pull out laptops and books.

Come 8:35 And she's finally here

"Hi I'm Mia I'm your new TA!"

She is way too excited seeing as she didn't get here on time "You're late"
I say coldly

"Yes, I know, I'm so sorry. I overslept."

"That's not a good excuse, are you not old enough to wake yourself up on time"

"I am old enough to wake myself up on time, but I slept through my alarm."

"I don't need your excuses, just sit down and get ready for class."

"Where am I meant to sit?"

"In a chair."

"Do I need to go make one of those to be allowed in your class" I look around noticing that there really isn't a chair for her. I think for a second before deciding a course of action.

"Go next door to Mrs Jacobs room and see if she has a spare chair"

"OMG so I don't have to make my own chair" The girl whose name I already forgot pretends to be surprised "That's so nice of you Mr. Matthews"

"Just go get the chair" I say, pretending not to notice the students giggling

"K" she says before she runs off

She just got here and I'm already exhausted
