"Hey. Hey!" I hear a doll-like voice whispering

"Hey! You gotta wake up! Helloooo?", it speaks again

"Oh give up Krista. If it's not waking up then it's clearly not conscious. Probably should take it to a doctor or something", another voice. A more mature one, someone in their late teens possibly?

Sunlight floods into my eyes as I drift back into consciousness. I move my limbs in order to sit upright and rub the sleepiness from my eyes

"Oh! Oh! It's waking up! Oh please, can I take care of it? Pleaasseee" the doll voice pleads to the other as if it were some younger sibling begging their older sibling to buy something for them. "No! You can barely take care of a tea set. How can we expect you to take care of a living being?" the older voice yells back. Disturbed, I open my eyes as I adjust to the light poured into my eyes, to try to prevent any fights from breaking out.

"Oh! You're awake! Good morning! Or, well, afternoon I have to say", I hear the voice again. I turn to look at the person, only to be faced by, well, nothing? They don't have a head? They seem completely fine. Is this a dream or something? A drug trip? What did they put in my juice last night?

"Ah! Wai- huh? What are-?" I try to speak, only to be interrupted by the voice again.

"Hey. Hey, it's ok. There's no need to be scared", the person with no head? Is that where the doll voice is coming from? They're moving like their talking to me

"Ugh. Stop talking to it like it's a stray cat or something", I turn to the more mature voice, hoping to find some sort of answer.

An eye?! For a head? Ok what is actually happening

I snap out of my thoughts when the headless person helps me up. "Uh. Thank you?". I turn to the eye-headed person with about a thousand questions in my head

"I'll be upfront. We aren't human like you", well that was about five hundred answered, but I still have five hundred more.

"Then what are you? Where am I?", I manage to blurt out

"We, well, um", the headless one slipped out. The eyed-headed one just looked confused. Did they not know what they were either?

"Uhm, well. Look. We aren't anything specific, is all we know", the eye-headed one answers. I think.

"Um. Just forget, about it", I shook it off. Literally. I start to feel a weird emptiness in my stomach

"Uhm. I'm actually a bit hungry. Do you two have any food?" I asked.

The two look at each other. At least I think they did. While they did I drift back into my thoughts. Where am I? Why am I here? Who are these people? What do they mean by 'not part of the animal kingdom'?

"Well you see", my thoughts are interrupted. "Since we aren't really part of, uh, nature you call it? We don't really need to eat, so we don't have a lot of food", I stare in shock. No food? I'm gonna die here. Do they at least have water? That should lengthen my life span right? Oh god and if they don't I'll barely last a day.

"Now don't take this the wrong way" one of them says to me. "We do have food" oh thank goodness "But" oh no, a but, that isn't good "It'll probably only last you around six months if you ration well enough" six months? Yeah. I can do six months

"Ok great" I hear them say. "Uh. What?" I asked. Uh oh. Did I slip again? It wasn't offensive, right?

"Oh, you just said that you could do six months"

"Oh. I just blurted that out, sorry"

"No no, it's fine. In those six months, we'll just get you some more food. Right! Food! Oh dear I'm doing horrible as your caretaker!", the headless person squirms around in a panic

"Temporary, caretaker" the other adds. "Compared to me. Krista has more food", they say while pointing to the headless. Krista. Was that the headless' name?

"Whatever! I'm still its caretaker. Oh dear, you must be so tired from standing! Let's go back to my place?", I assume that was Krista

"Yeah. Let's go" not like I have any other choice. I'm glad they even bothered to help me out, they could've just left me on the street to die. Did they want to help me because I was human? Or was it because they had genuine pity for me? Another stream of questions start to pool in my head, as we walked to what would be my new home
