Saturday morning. The day had finally arrived. I didn't want to wake up. I didn't want to get out of bed. I wanted to stay cuddled up beneath my blankets all day and sleep away all my troubles. If only life allowed you to do that.
After much contemplation of doing exactly that, I found the strength to get out of bed. Katarina had a soccer game this morning, so the family was bustling around the house getting ready to leave. Me, however, I was on house arrest. Not only by my parents, but by Scar too. I know he sent the shapeshifters to come watch over my house the minute the sun rose up, and they were going to continue to watch the house until the day and hunt were over. I wasn't going anywhere.
I had one more failed attempt at trying to convince my dad to call off the hunt, but he was dead set against it. He told me there was nothing that I should worry about. It took everything in my power not to give a sad laugh and explain to him that I had everything to worry about. I had friends and family that were going to be out in those woods tonight. Fighting each other. Someone was going to get hurt. Or worse.
After everyone left, besides my mom and myself, I decided I should eat something. Worrying on an empty stomach was only going to make me feel sicker. I scrambled enough eggs for me and my mom, made some toast, and poured some glasses of ice cold water before bringing it upstairs to her room, and taking a seat next to her on the bed.
"Smells good." She commented, taking a bite out of her toast. "Are you feeling any better today?"
"Worse." I replied glumly.
She rested her hand on my shoulder. "It'll get better." Badge wasn't the only thing I was worried about right now. "You don't have any plans for today?"
"I'm grounded. Remember?"
"Right. But you haven't really been living by that lately." She smiled. "Plus, I think it's a good idea you get your mind off of Ba–" She stopped short. "Off of things." She finished.
I shook my head. "No. I'm just gonna stay in for the day. Catch up on some work." It's not like I really had much of a choice in the matter anyway.
"Okay." She said, rubbing soothing circles on my shoulder. "We can have a movie day if you want? Unless you have a lot of work you have to do."
I couldn't handle being in front of my mom all day pretending that everything was fine when I was feeling like my insides were about to spill out my body. "I wish, but I really need to catch up and study. Rain check?'
"Sure." She gave a small smile.
I started to get up, but then sat back down. "Hey uh...I have to tell you something."
"What is it?" She asked, concerned.
"I don't really know how to say this, but yesterday Hannah and I took a road trip down to Stilwell."
"Okay." She said slowly, not sure where I was going with this.
"I was going there to...well I found out that..." I sighed. "I found my biological father's mother." I blurted real fast. My mom's mouth opened in shock, but she didn't say anything. I continued. "Her name is Noni. Noni Adair. She has two other daughters, Kim and Trina. Mom...she's incredible. She told me so much about Luke and she even gave me a picture of him."
"Where?" My mom barely uttered.
"It's upstairs in my room. Hold on. I'll go get it." I hastily jumped off the bed and climbed up the stairs, skipping every other step. I rummaged through my nightstand drawer and found the picture of Luke. I ran back downstairs into my parents' bedroom and handed the picture to my mom. "This is him. Well, is this him?" I questioned. It would really suck if I got the wrong family, but I knew I hadn't.
