Naruto had a good life at some point, he had a home, someone to care for him, a warm bed and food. That was a long time ago, when he lived at the orphanage, two years ago to be exact. He remembered the woman running the orphanage, a retired shinobi, she was a kind woman, always nice to him when the village treated him like an animal. He remembered her name, Mai, but he always just called her mom. But one day he was moved to this apartment, alone, all he had was a bed, a small table and a mini fridge. Ninjas would come give him money for rent, bills and food but as time passed it got smaller and smaller, eventually he had barely enough to buy himself enough food to last the month.

What made things worst for him was the attitude of the people towards him, he had done nothing to them and yet everyone looked at him with nothing but hatred. He had no friends, no family, nothing. Parents would drag their children away at the playgrounds, adults would keep their distance, some would throw things at him, insulting him. Some groups would form trying to get him, running after him with brooms and bottles, luckily he always managed to escape before he was beaten. These events made him afraid, afraid to go outside his apartment, afraid that maybe one day they might break down his door, and so he stayed in his apartment, only leaving very briefly to buy what little food and water he could. Looking at the world through his window, crying himself to sleep.

And there he was, sitting in the corner of his apartment, curled up in a ball, his stomach was grumbling, he hadn't eaten in days, he could feel his body lightly shaking, the power was out, water was cut. He could do it, he just needed to last 2 weeks, and he'll have some money to pay for the rent and utilities, just...2 weeks. His blurry vision moving to a cup of instant ramen, the last cup, after that he had no food left, next to it was a bottle, just enough water for a couple of days maybe? He stared at them, his stomach grumbling louder, the scent and taste of ramen would come to him, maybe he could just eat now, maybe he could tough it out for the coming days. No, he had to resist, those were his last provisions, he couldn't just eat them like that. No.

As much as his mind said no, his body moved on its own, weakly crawling towards the cup, with no electricity or gas he couldn't heat up the water, no matter, he poured the room temperature water in the cup and waited for the ramen to get soaked. Using his sticks, he quickly slurped, sobbing as he did, no tears were shed as he had none left. The empty cup rolled on the floor as Naruto crawled back to the corner of the apartment, hugging his knees to his chest once more, a wave of realization hit him, he was going to die here.

It's then that he heard some talking coming from outside, getting closer to his door, his eyes focusing on the entrance, his heart beating faster, the villagers found his house he thought. He heard some talking coming from the other side, before he heard a key sliding in the hole, opening the locks before the handle turned, he had to cover his eyes from the bright light rushing in from outside, seeing two figures walk in, the Third Hokage followed by a tall white haired man having a large scroll strapped behind him. The latter's eyes would bulge, running up to Naruto, startling him, causing him to put his arms on his head for self-defense. When he didn't feel a hit coming, he looked up, seeing the man examine him with...concern?

"N-Naruto? Is that you?" he asked quietly

Naruto, that was his name, he almost forgot it. The boy nodded, causing the man's eyes to get even bigger, he reached out to touch the boy, tracing a finger along his sunken in features. The little 6-year-old had barely any fat or muscle on him, he looked sickly, just skin wrapped around bones. The man pulled his hand away, rage starting to replace the concern in his eyes as he turned to the Hokage.

"What did you do to him?!" he shouted, "Is this how you repay Minato?! Is this how you honor his legacy?"

The Hokage remained quiet, a mournful expression on his face, not daring to look at Naruto. There was a silence between the men, before an ANBU appeared in the apartment
