I swear to you guys, this is not why it happened." Brystal insisted, trying to calm her friends down as they sat around the table. She was explaining the events leading up to the incident. Everyone looked at her, waiting for her next words.

Lucy sat on the steps of the magic academy, staring off into space. The door behind her opened making her jump. Standing behind her was Brystal, her sweet smile and light brown eyes gazed at her. Lucy stared back, with a small smile as Brystal sat on the steps next to her.
"Hey, Lucy." She said.
"Oh, hey," Lucy replied, turning towards her best friend. They didn't speak for a minute or two before Lucy spoke up again. "So, what's the big plan for today?"
Brystal smiled. "Well," she began, "I've been thinking about doing something together today." Lucy sighed and looked down to her lap. "Come on! It won't be that bad!" she added. Brystal could tell something was troubling Lucy. Most of the time Lucy was the one who sensed her trouble.
"Hey, Luc?" Brystal asked.
"Hmmm?"
"Are you okay?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're being so quiet. You know you can talk to me right? I'm your best friend." Brystal placed a hand on Lucy's shoulder and squeezed it comfortingly. "It's okay if you-" Brystal trailed off
Lucy stood up, looking at Brystal with tears in her eyes. "No, I need to go. See ya."
With that she ran up the steps, through the hallways and up the floating steps to the third floor. Brystal tried to catch up to her.
"Lucy?" Brystal called. No response.
Lucy ran into the hall and stood in front of her door catching her breath then turning the knob. She pushed it open and went inside and locked the door quickly.
She leaned against her door, sliding to the floor covering her face with her hands. Her mind was racing with thoughts.
Brystal stranded in the entryway staring up the winding, floating steps in front of her. Emerelda looked around the corner from the sitting room.
"What was that about?"she asked quietly.
"What was what?" Brystal responded, trying to play dumb. Though Em wasn't convinced, staring at her annoyed.
"Oh, you know the reason I just saw Lucy running up the stairs, tears rolling out of her eyes." she said heartedly. Brystal looked at her confusion pasting her face.
"I-I don't know, she kind of-"
"Ran away? Yeah leave her alone for a while, I've never seen Lucy sad let alone crying." Emerelda said with a sweet smile, then went back to what ever she'd been doing.
Brystal continued up the stairs, thinking about what Em had told her. When she reached her door she knocked lightly. There was no reply but Brystal knew there was someone inside. She sighed.
"Lucy, I know you're in here. Can we please talk? Please?" Brystal spoke softly.
Still no answer.
"Please, Lucy, I just want to help."
Silence.
"I really do care about you, Luce. Please." Brystal stood there not want to give up. She sighed heavily. She put her ear the the door, listening. She knew Lucy hated her snooping, but what could she do. Listening to the sounds behind the door when she heard muffled sobbing.
She frowned.
"Lucy? Are you all right?" she asked softly. A pause. Then another muffled sob, followed by silence. Brystal took a deep breath. "Lucy, if there is anything troubling you...please, I'm always here?"
Another long pause. Brystal closed her eyes. This wasn't like Lucy. She had always been just this caring, sweet, quick witted, and mostly chaotic person that Brystal loved, and after the... eventful year they've all had her, they fearies and witches needed eachother.
"Lucy...please come out." she said finally. Still nothing. She sighed loudly and turned the handle...locked. She had enough, of being ignored, but as she thought Lucy was upset, she was beyond upset, Brystal turned around and headed to her room to give Lucy more space.
When she got to her room, she sat on her bed. She rubbed her temples and thought for a minute. She'd only seen Lucy cry the day her parents left her at the academy, but since she was happy after having a few things happen that Brystal didn't want to think of. Lucy sat there for what felt like hours, her head in her hands as tears fell from her eyes. Her stomach was in knots, and turning in on itself. She had kept herself collected but she just couldn't anymore . Tears flowed down her cheeks as her whole body shuttered.
"Lucy, I know you're upset and I'm sorry. But please talk to me." Brystal pleaded with her on the other side of the door. Lucy didn't want anyone coming in even Brystal, there was nothing she wanted less than for them to see her this way.
After a few minutes, Lucy finally stood. She wiped her face dry with her sleeves. She pull herself up. Changed out of her black jumpsuit and into a t-shirt and black sweat pants. She starred at her door debating whether she should leave her room. The sun was setting outside the academy as she thought. She took a deep breath, sighing. She opened her door headed down the hall.
Brystal sat on her bed in deep thought about her friend. A soft knock called her attention. Brystal stood up, opening the door. Standing in front of her was Lucy, eyes red and full of tears as she stared back at her sniffing. Brystal's eyes widened, stepping aside letting her friend in.
"Lucy, are you okay?" Brystal asked, pulling Lucy close to her, rapping her arms tightly around her. Lucy buried her face in Brystal's shoulder.
"What's wrong Luc?" Brystal asked the girl in her arms. Lucy stayed silent for a moment.
"Nothing..." she whispered.
"Luce, you know you can talk to me." Brystal said quietly. Lucy pulled back and looked at Brystal in the eyes.
"There is no point. I'm fine." Lucy lied.
"I know you're not, you've not been your usual Lucy Goose self."
Brystal said gently, placing a hand on her cheek wiping a tear with her thumb.
Brystal sighed. She took Lucy in the room and shut the door. Lucy stared into Brystal with wet eyes. Brystal took Lucy's hand into her's as she pulled them to her.
"I'm worried about you..." Brystal whispered. Lucy looked down at her hands in Brystal's then looking her in the eyes.
"I'm fine, just some stuff on my mind." Lucy tried to laugh it off, sniffling again and wiping her eyes she smiled.
"You can talk to me Luce..."
"Brystal...it's nothing serious. I promise." she smiled sweetly at her. Brystal looked back at her. She pulled Lucy close and pressed her lips to Lucy's. Lucy went tense but then relaxed as leaned into it. Brystal pulled away smiling, and put her hand on Lucy's cheek again.
"just from experience, tell others who care for you what's on your mind, huh." she smiled. Lucy laughed and held Brystal's hand.
"I know, I taught you that"
"You don't listen to yourself" Brystal told. Lucy laughed and shook her head.
"Neither do you, you know"
"I've realized"
Brystal smiled. They stayed silent for a bit just holding each other's hand.
"Brystal..." Lucy began. Brystal hummed in return. "I love you."
"I love you too, Luce."
