Seeing Tilly rush out the door, my body wants to follow her, but Cam keeps me locked in singing mode. A few minutes later I see Conrad walking through the door. What the fuck? Peering through the side window I see the two of them on the steps.
Tilly keeps her head down, her chocolate brown hair falling in front of her face. Conrad says something and they both start to laugh. My stomach starts to feel sick and I don't know if it's because of the sight of my brother sitting next to the girl I've had a crush on my entire life or the alcohol.
Tilly brings a hand to her eye and wipes her face. I could only assume it's a tear. Conrad brings her in for a hug and I feel my blood boil. Suddenly I feel everything I've eaten in the past 24 hours start to come back up. I run off the makeshift stage and rush to tue bathroom, pushing everyone away.
My stomach contents go into the toilet and I feel empty. I groan and sit on the floor for a while. What was life right now? I get up and wash my face.
"Jere?" A sweet and serene voice muffles through the door. Tilly.
"Jere? You ok?" No, I'm not ok, I just puked my guts out after seeing you getting close with my brother.
"Um, yeah, just give me a minute." I hear footsteps reside away from the door and I take a deep breath. I open the door and make my way out. Conrad is back in the kitchen drinking his beer with his friends. Tilly is no where to be found. The front door is slightly open and I follow the cool breeze blowing in from the cracked door.
I feel the cool air hit my body and I already feel better. A small frame stands next to my red jeep that I could immediately recognize to be Tilly. I slowly walk towards her, trying to keep my balance. The gravel beneath me shuffles and she turns her head.
"You're alive," She laughs.
"I am." I can hear my response is slow and slightly delayed. I'm so drunk. She hands me a bottle of water and I take it. Opening it, I chug the whole thing in one drink.
"You better slow down before you throw all that water back up Jere," I sigh.
"Yes mom," I shake my hands as she rolls her eyes.
"You wanna get out of here?" She isn't looking at me, but the road ahead.
"Where to?" She looks at me and puts her hand out.
"Keys please." My eyebrow naturally raises.
"Just give them." She rolls her eyes again and I laugh.
"Someone's impatient tonight." I drop them in her hands.
"Oh just get in the car before I leave your ass on this lawn full of puke and broken beer bottles."

I start the car and open the door for Jeremiah, who's currently trying to push the door open. The door lightly opens and hits him square in the forehead. He groans and rubs his head. I try to hold in my laughter.
"Are-you ok?" The chuckles come through my lips.
"Noo.." He climbs into the car and leans his head back and grabs an aspirin bottle from his glove compartment.
I buckle him and give him a pat on the shoulder. "Go to sleep Jere, I'll wake you when we get there." He nods and is already half asleep. I sigh, playing some light music in the back so it isn't completely silent. The windows roll down and I start the hour drive toward our beach.

About 50 minutes later, I shift the car into park and turn off the engine. I turn my head to wake up Jeremiah, but he's curled in a ball on the seat sleeping soundly. I decide to let him sleep a bit more and exit the car. I walk down the beach and take a seat on the sand.
This beach was the first beach that Laurel and Susannah took me to with the kids. I was at the ripe old age of 5 and I had a purple rubber duck that I took everywhere with me. We were all in the water and my duck started to float away. We all tried to get it back, but the water got to deep.
I remember crying about it for hours, and then Jeremiah promised me he would buy me a new one. Of course, the one that actually bought it was Susannah, but she let Jere take all the credit for it. He was so proud of himself.
The next time we came here was when I was 12. I don't know why it took us so long to come back, but when Belly and I had just started middle school. We were going through puberty and were going through all sorts of things. Nothing that summer was really different than all the others. But when I came back to this beach freshman year with a boyfriend, things were very different.
Everybody warned me, but I didn't listen. When school started things ended and Jere facetimed me every day to make sure I was ok. Since then I hadn't been back. We were just busy every summer and I honestly had forgotten about this beach until tonight.
"Out of all the places you could've picked I didn't think it would be here." Looking, over my shoulder, I see Jeremiah walking towards me with his curly hair flopping all over his face and bags under his eyes.
"I didn't either, I just had a feeling that this was where I should be." He sits down next to me. Or more like flops because his back hits the sand before his butt does.
I laugh and reach my hand out for him to sit up. "I see someone is still under the influence." He grabs my hand and drags me down to the sand. My elbow supports my body before my head contacts the ground.
"HEY!" He grins, pushing me slowly so I'm laying on the sand next to him.
We lay in silence and look at the sky, stars shining high and bright. The sound of the waves crashing relaxing every bone in my body.
