Chapter one: Lana

Some say that death is eternal damnation, others say it's freedom. I would say I fall in the second category. I long for that freedom. Freedom of choice, of sadness, I longed for nothingness.

From a young age, I would say, I held a fascination for it. To be in a limbo, like some religions believe in or even to be tortured in hell like others. I guess my Fascination prepared me.

My eternal damnation began on a day like any other, my classes had just ended and I was walking back home. It was uninteresting or so I believed, little did I know everything was going to change a be it a painful way.

"Come on," the man growled as he took the girl into his arms, her heart faint.

"My lord, should I called the ambulance?" The man behind asked him, as they just witnessed the accident. The other car, now in flames, as the man inside was dead. The man ignored everything around him, his attention solely on the girl in his arms. The scent of her blood intoxicating as her heart slowly giving up.

"My Lord." He called out again, the man's eyes hardened as he growled and then bit into his arm.

"My Lord!" The Man behind him exclaimed.

"Call Jensen." The man ordered as he stared at the girl who was once dying. His blood dripping between her lips as her heart started to race. Her eyes suddenly snapped open, wide with life as her once brown eyes and suddenly shifted into a haunting purple, both men stared in shock. Her heart stopped, her body going Limp as death seeping into her body giving birth to a life.

...

"She's gorgeous." a voice called out , a voice she didn't quiet recognize . "What's happening?" She thought to herself as she struggled to pry open her eyes, finally they opened, her face cringing as her vision slowly adjusted to the brightness.

"She's waking up!" Another voice exclaimed, the girl groaned. An ache coming from her gums and arms.

"What's going on?" She asked. The question was up for anyone who wanted to answer.

The man, one of the voices, she didn't recognize step forward. "What do you remember?" He answered the question with a question.

"I finished my lecture and was going home. Then there was this car. I was in an acciden!" She exclaimed, panic starting to rise, but not for the supposed accident she had been in. Something was wrong, wrong with her. Everything felt different

Enhanced one would say.

"You were in an accident... you were dying..." The man said, completely serious. "If I'm dead. Then how come I'm here? Am I in hell?" She asked waiting for someone to jump out and point to the cameras but no one did. "No, before you could die. Someone found you and turned you." He said, the one beside him smile expectantly.

"Into what?" she asked. She expected her heart to be racing at the scene, but she couldn't feel it. She felt void.

"Well, in old language some would call us Nosferatu or Striga, however you may know it in common tongue as vampire." He explained. She expected the people in the room to finally break character, to burst out in laughter. This joke was ridiculous but what she found even more unbelievable was the fact that she found herself believing him.

She took the time to look at the two of them, really look at them. They were regal, like high fae lords from a fiction novel. Everything about them was beautiful in ways that were unnatural. No flaws to be seen.

They were unlike anything she'd ever seen .

"Are you saying that I'm a vampire?" she asked.

"You are, just as we are. We are the same." The woman beside him answered this time, her voice like wind chimes, simply beautiful.

"This has to be a stupid joke." The girl said in disbelief, but she knew with the lack of beat in her chest, they weren't joking.

"I'm afraid not." The man said as the woman edges closer.

"Who turned me?" The girl asked, then continued, "was it you?"

The pair turned to each other then the woman answered, "No. We are not exactly the ones that turned you."

"Then who are you?" The girl asked.

"My name is Ian and this is my wife Emma. We are here to help you." He said.

"How exactly are you going to help me?" She questioned.

" We are going to teach you to control, and everything you need to know about vampire life." Emma answered with a warm smile that seemed more hopeful if anything.

"What will you get out of it." She asked, they couldn't of been doing this just because.

"Well, this is a bit forward but we want to adopt you." Emma said while Ian nodded.

"Why me?" The girl questioned.

"Well we've wanted children for what seems like a very long time but haven't been successful and with adopting, we can only adopt someone of the same standard of nobility." He said why she stared at him.

"what do you mean?" She asked clearly confused.

"Vampires are measured in strength, the stronger you are, the higher rank. My wife and I are nobles and so are you. " He explained then looked to Emma who continued, "You are the first Noble to be turned." She explained.

"How do you know?" The girl asked.

"Your eyes, love." Emma said, then her eyes flashed an unnatural purple. "Lesser turned vampires usually have a yellow or red." She explained.

" Your eyes are a bright lavender, with age it could turn lighter or darker but we know that you are strong which puts you on a higher rank." Ian explained.

"So you want to adopt me because of that?" she asked.

"No, not because of that." Emma chimed in, "We want to love you like our own, We don't care about rank but there are rules that even we must follow. You don't have to agree right away but let us help you."

The girl went quiet. It wasn't as if she had much of a choice. She needed them. she was clueless here and they could shed light on a lot of things as well protect her if she needed it. The smartest thing would to be to neither agree nor disagree.

"I'll come with you but we'll hold of on adoption." The girl said shyly. she needed to impress them and make them love her.

"That's all we ask. Now may we know your name?" Ian asked.

"Lana... My name is Lana."
