The sound of hunger woke Madeline Morris. Frowning slightly, she got up and walked down the stairs to the front door. Opening the door and looking through the screen, Madeline saw a small child swaddled in blankets.
She went out and picked the, now screaming with hunger, baby up. Going to the kitchen, Madeline mixed up a concoction of milk. She knew how, for she and her husband, Roger, had recently lost their three year old son to pneumonia.
Walking up the stairs, Madeline softly sang a lullaby, " Hush little one, please don't cry. The world will wake, in wake of your cry." She started humming it when she got to the bedroom. Gently opening the door, Madeline saw that her husband was awake.
"What's that in your arms?" He asks. " Shhh. It's a baby girl. I found her on the porch," she whispered. " Let me see her, " " Just be careful sweetheart." Madeline gently set the baby in Roger's arms. Examining the blankets swaddled around the baby, he exclaimed," This blanket has the name Vivian on it. I guess that's what we'll call her." Saying that, Madeline knew he had decided to keep Vivian and raise her as their own.
