TAEHYUNG'S POV [NYC]

"Time of death- 6:03 pm" I silently announced as cold sweat trickled down my face.

I ran my hand over the face of my 22-year-old dead patient to close her eyes and took off my gloves. After sharing sympathetic glances with my co-surgeons, I started walking towards the door but halted at the sight of the other side of our surgery room.

The dead girl's father anxiously paced up and down the alleyway and her mother was sitting on the chair, trembling with her head in her hands on the other side of the operation theater's glass window.

I slowly gulped and opened the door which made everyone look my way. Her father immediately paced towards me and her mother stood up from her place. At that moment, I regretted the choice of being a surgeon, I regretted being someone who could give hope to people even in situations when only I knew how fucked up it is.

They both stood in front of me and her dad took my hands in his-

"Doctor, Please tell me you were able to save her." He said as I stared at the ground.

After a few moments of silence, he yelled again as tears started streaming down their faces-

"Please say something, Doctor. She is our only child, we cannot live-"

"We couldn't save her, sir. I am sorry for your loss." I said with a blank face as I felt my hands getting heavier. Her dad went silent for a minute before breaking down and collapsing to the ground. Her mother immediately went to him and flung her arms around him.

"We lost her, we lost our baby,"

"How could god be so cruel to our innocent child." they cried loudly in one corner as my body grew stiff. I started walking towards the washroom with no emotion portrayed on my face.

As I grew closer to the end of the alleyway, their wails started becoming distant and distant. I entered the washroom and stepped directly in front of the mirror. With my hands on either side of the basin and my head hung low, I started whispering to myself.

"I couldn't save her, I couldn't save their only reason to live," I mumbled as tears ran down my face.

These days I was feeling gloomy for no particular reason, and this incident brought down my mood even more. Such deaths are quite common in the professional life of a surgeon but sometimes when you let yourself loosen up, these incidents break you to your core.

Watching life flash right in front of you needs a brave heart. And the sturdier a substance is, the easier tend to break when a fine amount of pressure is applied to it.

So to prevent that, we have to make some time in our busy schedules for a small vacation or whatsoever for the sake of our mental health. And that is exactly what I needed right now, a holiday.

After such a stressful Friday evening, I decided to stroll down the streets near our hospital.

Nature seemed to notice the internal turmoil I was facing so it was trying to pacify me by tinting the sky a beautiful shade of orange and pink. This natural and peaceful hue seemed to calm me more than anything else did on planet earth. The wind was gently flowing and was caressing my flawless skin, just like how I needed it.

People around me were seemingly minding their own businesses and at that point, I really thought that I had all the peace in the world but my calm state was disturbed by a loud and high-pitched voice approaching me from behind.

"Taehyung-ah, where on earth were you?"

I turned around to see a guy my age wearing a red checkered shirt paired with black pants approaching me with the velocity of a tesla. This athletic man was my annoying best friend, and even though we were really close, after a long day at work I just wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone.
