Five days went by so fast. School was back, and I didn't see Bree that much. I didn't like how she had been so worried about taking some of my food. I didn't want her to think that I was some kind of greedy stinge.
I wanted her to know that taking anything in the house belonged to me was okay. But that Monday evening, when I came back from work. I found a carton of eggs in the fridge with a note saying, "Sorry again for taking your food without permission." Friday night, I ended up talking to her brother about it.
"Dude, did you tell your sister that it's okay she can grab whatever she likes? I don't care."
We were in the living room, playing some Call of Duty. It was Friday evening, and we were already done without classes for the day. I had no shifts, and kicking back with a couple of beers while playing video games was living the good life. Well, William was drinking. I was enjoying playing the game.
"Yeah, I told her already. I can't force her if she feels comfortable with it."
I wouldn't say I liked the answer; I didn't want her to worry about such small things, but her brother was right.
William's phone buzzed a moment later as he received a text message. He glanced at the screen; a frown appeared on his face.
"Shit, my sister wants me to go pick her up," he said. Right away, I knew that he couldn't. He just had way too many beers.
"Call her an Uber," I said.
"Shit, uber is expensive," he said as he started getting up from the couch unsteadily.
"You are not going to drive, are you?' I asked, concern laced in my tone.
"Of course not," he gave me the why would you even ask look.
'Then what are you planning on doing,"
"Maybe get her an Uber. I need to call her for a quick second."
He went toward the kitchen and dialled his sister's number. His footsteps were unsteady. He reached into the fridge and pulled out a jug of water.
"Where are you? " I heard him say. I had paused the game and was scrolling through YouTube.
"I had a couple of drinks; I can't drive, so I'm calling you an Uber," he said. I found a funny compilation of videos and started watching, but I was still paying attention to his conversation.
"I don't remember you asking me to pick you up," he said. I was thinking about something, but I didn't know how William would react.
"Shit, why is Uber so expensive. He muttered, and I thought it was time to raise my thoughts. 'Why don't you let me go pick her up." I asked. Of course, if he said no, I wouldn't offer again. William stopped and had a look on his face as though he was thinking about it, and just when I thought he was about to refuse. He said.
