It was a rather normal day in the body, everyone doing their jobs as they should. White blood cells protecting the body, Red blood cells delivering nutrients and oxygen. Meanwhile, in one of the bone marrows, a certain myelocyte was just sitting on a bench, waiting for her best friend so she could tell him about her plan. When she caught a glimpse of him, she hopped off the bench and ran towards him.
"Hey Terry~ I was waiting for you!"
She smiled, waving at the other neutrophil. He just smiled, she liked to call him Terry, since it was shorter than calling him Terrance. And he actually liked the cute little nickname.
"Hey Shin! How are you? You said you wanted to meet up!"
Shin perked up, a bright smile forming on her face. She had a plan to sneak out of the bone marrow for a little bit to find out what was outside.
"Yes! I came up with a little idea! Don't you want to see what's ahead of us once we mature?"
Terry just nodded, he was indeed curious about what her idea was.
"How about we sneak out of the bone marrow and go check it out! I already have a plan how to get out and then get back!"
Terry's smiled dropped as he shook his head, now that he knew what her idea was, though he knew how stubborn she was, and there was probably no talking her out of it.
"C'mon Shin, outside of the bone marrow is dangerous for us myelocytes! You can't go outside, and if you actually do it, leave me out of your plan please."
He crossed his arms, he'd do most things with his best friend but this was an exception. The teachers warned them that it was dangerous outside until they matured and he wasn't going to take the risk. Meanwhile Shin just made a pouty face, literally like a child that's been denied something, which did just happen.
"Oh come one Terry! Don't be a wimp. You can't tell me you are curious about the outside! It'll just be a quick glance and go!"
"Shin. The answer is final, I'm not going outside, it's dangerous for us immature cells!"
Now it was time for Shin to cross her arms, her pout turning into more of a angry pout.
"Fine! Be like that! I'm going and when I get back, I'm going to tell you how amazing it was!"
With that, the female myelocyte stomped away, going to initiate the plan to go outside. It took a bit of time, though Shin managed to slip by outside of the bone marrow, now she just had to stay low so she wouldn't get sent back and get in trouble.
"Hehe! Terry will be so jealous that I got outside! I'm going to tell him about all the great things I've seen!"
She giggled, marching around and trying to stay out of sight. There were so many cells she never saw working! All these red blood cells and all kinds of immune cell. At the sight of a neutrophil, a bit of pride has risen in her.
"I'm going to be a great neutrophil once I mature, I know it!"
Basically, stars appeared in her eyes as she hid in one of the alleys, watching all the cells working in amazement. She went a bit more farther away from the bone marrow, confident that she could get away by just running away if she needed. She once again hid in the alley, her mouth watering at all the nutrients the red blood cells were carrying around. This wasn't secret to anybody back at the bone marrow, that she absolutely loved any kind of food. Nutrients for common cells, glucose filled food and everything alike that! What she didn't know, a certain bacteria was crawling out of the vent, and she didn't notice it from being in a daze from all the food around. This was a great opportunity for the bacteria, a young, immature cell not paying attention? A free kill for it! The bacteria didn't care that the small myelocyte was out of the bone marrow, if anything it was welcome because she was such an easy kill!
"Oh would you look at that~ a little cell out of the safety of the bone marrow!"
The bacteria chuckled, approaching Shin who finally realized what was going on. The problem was, she was trapped. If she ran outside of the alley, she could be caught by the other cells and at the time she didn't make the connection that she would be more safe getting in trouble than possibly dying. She backed up into the corner of the alley, fear clearly in her eyes as she drew her plastic blade.
"I-I am an immune cell aswell! I-I will get r-rid of you! S-stupid germ!"
The bacteria just laughed at her, immediately knocking the small blade out of her hands which made color drain from her face completely. She quickly started looking around for something else to protect with, as she got even more backed up. This was it, If she didn't find something to protect herself with that was, and still she was too weak to kill the bacteria. For once in this crazy plan, luck turned her side and she found some glass shards nearby a bin. She was very fast in picking them up, which the bacteria didn't stop, since what was a little cell gonna do?
"You're too weak to beat me little cell~ just give up and I'll make it quick~"
Shin just shook her head, as a future immune cell she wasn't going to give up to a stupid germ!
"I am a-a immune cell! N-no way I'm gonna give up!"
She threw the glass shards at the face of the bacteria, which luckily hit one of its eyes. The bacteria screamed in pain, getting the shard out of its eye.
"You little! Now I'm going to enjoy killing you brat!"
The bacteria slashed at Shins face with it's claws, which she didn't guard in time. It was almost a direct hit, a wound on her eye quickly forming and bleeding out cytoplasm. Then it came, tears started steaming down her face, letting out a screech of pain as she held the newly formed wound with her hands to try and stop the bleeding. The bacteria laughed once again at her, ready to strike once more at her to finally finish the small cell off. Shin didn't even try to dodge, too focused on all the pain on her face, all the blood bleeding on her face. Luckily for her, before the bacteria could strike, one of the neutrophils who found Shin and the bacteria thanks to his receptor and the screech of pain Shin let out. The bacteria was now dead in the ground, as the neutrophil noticed the small myelocyte on the ground. To Shin, everything he was saying was just a blur, as she continued to sob on the ground. Terry was right, the outside of the bone marrow was too dangerous for such a small, immature cell to handle. Yet she didn't listen to him and instead stubbornly went out, and if her bleeding wasn't stopped soon, she could die anyway! All because if her own stupidity.
Finally some of the words became clearer, the neutrophil seemed to be talking to her, so she looked at him, her face stained both by blood and tears.
"You shouldn't be so far from the bone marrow, you know that? I'll lead you back into the back if you'd like to, and then we'll deal with that bleeding real quick."
Shin just slowly nodded, just wanting to go back into the safety of the marrow, and to see her best friend again. The neutrophil gave her a small smile, then picked her up to get her back to the bone marrow, a place where cells like her belonged. Most of the way there was mostly a blur for the little myelocyte, as she was too busy crying her eyes out. She properly got back to her senses when the wound was bandaged and she was back in the safety of the teacher. Of course, Terry was the first one to come to check on her when he saw one of the neutrophils carry her back.
"Shin! What happened? Oh it looks bad! I told you that it was dangerous outside!"
The macrophage that had bandaged her face up, stood beside the two.
"Don't worry dear~ Your friend will be fine, it's lucky that these kind neutrophils found her so fast after it happened!"
The macrophage decided not to mention the fact that Shin was probably not going to be able to see on that one eye anymore, to not worry him anymore. And then, as the days went by, the wound slowly healed up and turned into a scar, neither her or Terry wanted anyone to ask about it, so Shin decided to start wearing her bangs over the damaged part of her face, with the explanation of it 'looking cool'. Terry was with her most of the time, to reassure her I'd she was crying or to stop her from having anymore stupid ideas. In the present day, Shin doesn't think about the past much anymore, since it just brings back bad memories from the time how dumb and stubborn she was. The scar still remained a secret to almost all the cells she knew, except for the two closest to her, Terry and Mikie.
