sunshine poured through the open window, chilly air flowing in along with the smell of crunchy leaves and autumn air. an alarm sounded from a night stand in the large dorm room, though the noise was not enough to wake up rory.
"rory! for the love of god, turn that shit off!" bea groaned from under a pillow. her voice was enough to wake up the girl who immediately sat up and turned off the alarm.
"sorry," she muttered, rubbing her tired eyes. the room was bright, too bright, and it was six in the morning. classes started in about an hour, which gave her enough time to get ready and head down to the dining hall for some breakfast.
bea and katie continued to snooze, though angelina was already up and out of the room. like rory (but worse), angelina preferred to be extremely early to things and often woke up hours before any of the other gryffindors. typically she was either out on the quidditch field or in the library.
rory simply was a slow eater and enjoyed sitting in the dining hall early in the morning while the walls were painted yellow with sunshine, the smell of freshly cooked breakfast food so strong you could taste it before it even touched your tongue.
slipping on a sweater and some jeans, rory washed her face and brushed her hair before heading down the stairs to the common room. two ginger twins sat at a small table, whispering quietly as they hovered over a notebook filled with scribbles.
"this one could do a lot of damage, freddie," george warned, though he was smiling.
"that's exactly the point my dear brother," the other twin returned, a similar smirk painted on his lips.
george looked up with a devilish grin, spotting rory as she stepped off of the last step.
"there's our early bird!" he exclaimed, jumping up from his seat to greet his best friend.
"seems you two are the early birds this morning," rory grinned as george picked her up and spun her around.
"oh, we never slept," fred replied, running his fingers through his messy hair.
rory shook her head, wagging a finger at the two boys who now stood towering in front of her.
"sounds like we could all use a cup of tea and some breakfast," she commented. the twins often stayed up late working on products for their business they'd been running at school. they were always cooking up new pranks or inventions to improve their pranks. rory stayed up to help them every once in a while, though they didn't really need it.
"we'll meet you down there in a sec rory," george said as he tousled her hair with his large hand. softly punching him in the arm, she parted ways with the two boys temporarily and headed towards the dining hall.
she enjoyed eating alone as long as she had a good book and a pair of headphones. she kept both of these things in her tote bag that was practically glued to her shoulder when her background wasn't stuck to her back.
she'd only been sitting at the long table for about 10 minutes before she felt a weight sink into the bench next to her, a pair of arms wrapping around her waist.
when she didn't look up immediately, her headphones were pulled down from her ears and rested around her neck.
"hellooooo, earth to rory," george's deep voice sang in her ear. fred took a seat on the bench opposite of them as george tried to get rory's attention.
"just let me finish this page really quick," rory said gently without looking up from her book. george nodded beside her and shut his mouth until she shut the book and looked up.
"permission to speak your honor?" fred asked through a mouthful of biscuit.
"not until you've finished chewing your food," rory said.
"you sound like my mother," he returned after chewing and swallowing his food.
"rory practically is a mother to you two," bae huffed as she sat down next to fred. "lord knows the both of you need it."
"morning bea," rory grinned before sipping on her hot tea. she preferred coffee, though they only had it on certain days at hogwarts.
"morning rory," bea smiled for a moment before returning to her normal grumpy self. she wasn't always this way - just in the mornings. rory was always the happy one once she'd had caffeine and good food.
katie joined them shortly after, though angelina was nowhere to be found per usual. most likely, she had already eaten breakfast and was standing outside of her first class for the professor to unlock the door.
fred, bea, and katie all spoke as they ate their food, discussing professors and ridiculous homework assignments over tea and pancakes.
rory and george were in their own little world together. they'd been that way since their friendship had begun - always forming a bubble around themselves when they were together. the two were simply inseparable.
"this biscuit is dry as fuck," george choked, taking a sip from his water glass. he chugged the entire cup, his adams apple bobbing up and down below his sharp, hard jawline.
"you say this every morning, yet you still always grab a biscuit first thing at breakfast," rory giggled. in front of her was a bowl of several kinds of fruits and a half eaten bowl of oatmeal.
"i wish i was more like you," he said, plucking a raspberry from her bowl and popping it into his mouth.
"why, cause i'm smart? pretty? funny? the list is everlong."
"sure, that's it."
the food in front of them disappeared suddenly, warning them that class was about to start. standing up and brushing off her jeans, rory slid her bag further up onto her shoulder and headed back to the common room to get her school items together.
george followed her up and told her about the new item they'd come up with last night; a strawberry flavored candy that temporarily turns you red and bumpy. they'd also made a "fart machine" which literally just released a putrid smell when you pulled a trigger.
although a lot of people would've found their ideas to be stupid, rory loved to hear all about their creations or what they were planning to do.
"i wish i could see into your mind," rory giggled as she slung her book bag over her shoulder and collected extra things that were scattered around her dorm. george sat at the edge of her bed, man spreading with his hands clasped between his knees.
"there's a spell for that, you know," he said with raised brows and a tilted head. his and rory's eyes got wide at the same time.
"that could totally be your next creation," rory said excitedly. she loved coming up with ideas for their shop, especially ones the twins thought were genuinely good.
"mind reading marshmallows!" george exclaimed, grabbing his own bag from the ground and pulling out the same notebook he and fred had been hovering over just an hour prior. he scribbled for a moment before closing the book and sliding it back into his bag.
"you're a genius, rory. a fucking genius."
