tear drops fell from the sky quickly, the hard rain tapping the windows of the castle so hard it sounded like they might break. it had been gloomy for two days straight, but gloomy never looked depressing at hogwarts. the dark clouds and stained concrete made the castle look gothic. rory practically felt like she was in a horror film when she was on campus during times like these, in the best way possible of course.

due to the heavy rain, most of the gryffindors stayed in their dorms or inside the common room. since it was a saturday, rory slept until around 9. her room mates had all left already, leaving her alone in the dorm.

there was a knock on her door as she sat up from bed.

"who's it?"

"your good ol chum," george's voice answered from outside the door.

"mm, im not sure i know who that would be. can i get a last name maybe?"

"yeah, yeah, just let me know if you're naked or not so i can come in."

"i'm naked, come in," rory rolled her eyes, still in bed. the door opened and the boy entered, immediately making a bee line for the girls bed.

he had obviously not been awake for long - his eyes had that sleepy look to them and his red hair stuck up every which way. it was a look he somehow managed to pull off.

"morning," he said groggily, jumping in to occupy the space next to her in her bed.

"top of the morning to you chum," she saluted. they were shoulder to shoulder in the small bed, each sitting up against the headboard.

"how did you sleep? any bad dreams, any monsters in the closet? you know, fred and i actually made a potion for that 'cept instead of getting rid of monsters it makes you see monsters."

rory wasn't sure how he had the energy to talk so much before at least having a cup of tea, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. he was the only person she would willingly talk to within 10 seconds of waking up.

"that sounds terrifying, but i slept well. i had a dream that i was in a haunted house except it was my nan's house but it was also sort of my house? and then i walked through a door and was at hogwarts."

"i wonder if the stars can tell you what that one means," george teased, nudging his best friend in the side.

"they'd probably connect it to romance somehow," rory huffed.

"maybe it means you'll fall in love with nearly headless nick."

"oh, i'm sure that's it."

"i'm sure he's got a great personality," george shrugged with a sly grin. he lowered himself down to rest his head on a pillow, lifting the covers higher up onto himself.

"how late were you up last night?" rory asked, lowering herself as well and facing him as she snuggled into her pillow.

"very late," george sighed. "fred and i made a set of ears tied together by a piece of string. took forever."

the boy had a piece of fuzz stuck in his hair, so rory carefully pinched it between her fingers and lifted it off, flicking it into the room.

"you can take a nap, i'll be very quiet," rory assured him. she loved that he always let her do the things she enjoyed while he, an absolute chatterbox, sat quietly and simply waited for her to be done. it was her turn to do the same for him.

he merely hummed before falling asleep almost instantly, his face softening as his breaths became louder and more even.

she noticed the way his nose curved at the top, and how it was dusted in light freckles that flowed just barely onto his cheeks. they were freckles that you wouldn't notice from afar, but were obvious this up close.

it was no secret that george weasley was beautiful. he was tall, handsome, and the most amazing person rory had ever met. the boy had girls lining up to get with him, though he had never been in a relationship.

that wasn't to say that he'd never been with any girls. he had definitely been with girls before, and had told rory all about it - she knew too much, really - but he had never gone anywhere beyond that with a girl.

she'd asked him before why he never got with any of the girls who obviously were obsessed with him, though he'd always just come up with some shitty excuse like, "it's just not in my schedule" or "i'm just not looking for anything serious right now."

rory suspected that he secretly liked angelina, but she was dating some 7th year ravenclaw, so he was waiting around for her to be single again.

it was maybe 30 minutes after george had fallen asleep that there was a knock at the door. rory had grabbed her book and began reading it once more while george lay flat on his stomach with his arm resting over her torso.

"come in!" rory whisper yelled.

bea walked in cautiously, holding her shoes in her hand. she looked between her friend and her friends best friend, confusion drowning her features as she set her shoes down.

"when did this happen?" she asked, pointing her finger at george, then rory.

"what do you mean?"

"i just mean you look like a couple," bea whispered. "did something happen between the two of you?"

"oh, god no. he was just tired and fred kept him up all night with some prank idea so i told him he could sleep here."

"sounds like an excuse to sleep with you to me," the girl shrugged.

rory rolled her eyes. bea had always been an advocate for her and george to be more than friends, but rory just didn't think that could ever be possible. she was rory and he was george. best friends, nothing more. she was unlovable, remember?

of course, it was then that george pulled rory into him further, snuggling his head into her stomach as he slept. bea shrugged as if to say i told you so before grabbing her things and leaving the dorm once more.

it was about an hour later that george woke up, rolling onto his back and covering his eyes with his arm.

"what time is it?" he asked groggily, his voice deep and raspy. if his bed head had been bad before, it was even worse now.

"10:47," rory replied, setting her book down on her bed side table. "want a cup of coffee?"

he nodded quickly, sitting up once more and leaning against the headboard.

rory climbed out of bed, slipping on a pair of fuzzy slippers her mum had gifted her last christmas. she was wearing a pair of sweatpants and a black, lace tank top. she noticed the way george stared at her as she grabbed two mugs from the cabinet and started the pot of coffee.

she'd always preferred coffee to tea, though it wasn't offered at hogwarts due to its unpopularity. last year, she saved up money working in a book store back at home and bought it before returning to school. even george had started to enjoy coffee more than tea.

"are those my sweatpants?" he asked.

"yeah, and you're never getting them back. they're comfy." she had them rolled up a few times so they would fit her better, seeing as george was much bigger and taller than she was. still, they were so soft.

" 's alright with me," he mumbled, still sounding very tired.

he picked up the book from her table and flipped through it a bit before reading it. as he read, she did what she would normally do in the morning - wash her face, brush her hair, pick up clothes and send them down to be washed. by the time she was done with all of this, the coffee was done brewing.

the two spent the morning sitting in the window with their coffees, each drinking two before deciding they needed food to soak up all the caffeine. george left her dorm to change out of his pyjamas, and rory quickly slipped on a long sleeved white shirt with a red, plaid skirt and some mary janes before heading down to the common room.
