Finney didn't like true crime, he hated horror as a whole, let alone the harsh truth of reality that came with the genre—the harsh truth was not death—death was natural, murder on the hand, well, murder was more common then others liked admitting. It was scary believing that humans could do such a thing though Finney had accepted a long time ago that that it was easy to kill otherwise it wouldn't have been such a terrifying concept. He knew it made him an asshole for thinking what he did, but murder wasn't special enough for him to truly care about, it was just another example of life.
When the killings showed up on the doorstep of his small town that had never experinced that sort of attention before, it was like the whole community lost it's shit, making such a big deal out of the victim's and the "grusome horrors" as they put it and to be honest Finney found himself wondering about the killer. As established, murder was easy, yet, people weren't trained to know that infomation so the fact that someone finally realized just how easy it could've been was intriguing to say the least.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he had been in the house before he murdered her, there was no signs of forced entry after all..." Finney had made his interest in the murders quite clear, the way he knew the details of each death was almost impressive if not scary—his friends didn't know just how deep his interest dug. With a sudden heightened awareness of his surroundings Finney cleared his throat and looked up at the boy who sat across him at the lunch table. "Sorry, Bruce," He apologize, failing to come off as sincere though deep down he truly was. Amy Yamada was the second victim of "Ghostface"—the name the papers had coined for the masked maniac after a halloween costume was left at one of the crime scenes. Finney always thought the name was unoriginal but serial killer names were always either too literal or too super villain-ish and Ghostface was a perfect mix so in that aspect it was perfect.
Amy was murdered in her home on a saturday afternoon while her parents were on a date and her brother, Bruce, was at his friend Vance's house—which was a common occurrence. She was almost 15 so her parents had no issues leaving her alone which was their first mistake. She was stabbed once in the stomach and bled out—she was only 14 and three quarters, making her the youngest victim.
"It's okay," Bruce faked a smile before turning back to his food that had remained primarly untouched. Finney didn't know when to stop so the vague confirmation that Bruce was okay with people talking about it around him was all he needed to continue detailing the crimes. "Man, but Griffin..." Griffin, the first victim, was different than Amy, his death was polished and well thought out. If it wasn't for the sloppy nature of Amy's death Finney could've believed it was also premeditated since there was no sign of a break in, but again, it felt too messy to even be a theory. The fact that she died of a stab wound instead of a slit throat like Griffin was also a big tell that something might've went wrong, it didn't seem like much but killer's tended to have a pattern, of course it was too early to tell if there even was one but it was always something to consider.
"You know, maybe Amy's death was just wrong time wrong place," Finney theorized.
"She was killed at home, cuntwad," Vance glared, he already didn't like Finney yet the constant attitude he had about knowing everything about the murders would've been the thing to put him over the edge, he called everyone mean things yet Finney in those moments would've been the reason why actual malicious intent were behind Vance's words. "Well maybe he wasn't there for her," He retoroted jokingly though in the back of his mind the theory of Bruce perhaps being the target stayed as an explentation of the quality of Amy's murder compared to Griffin.
Billy couldn't eat with the constant talk about death in his ear, he despised the fact that his friends seemed so open to the idea of joking about actual human lives that were cut unbelievably short, it just felt wrong.
