Infomation

Based off of a Blue Orchid Mantis

Mantrice are mantis based aliens that are 6.5 ft on average and are omnivores.
They are special because they have a pouch inside of them in front of their stomach to keep their baby in until they can better fend for themself. It takes their babies 6 years to grow up and spend their first 2 mostly in their mothers pouch till their claws get sharp and they are strong enough to fly and keep up with mom.
Males will leave to be alone and the females will stay together and form string bonded family groups. A Mantrice will live for about 40 years on average but most die around 30 or less due to living in such dangerous areas. The males only live till 35 due to how many fights they get into over territory and females.
Females will travel a lot to find fresh food and males will stay in one territory for their entire lives.
Mantrice breath through the sides of their necks so they can better eat large prey. They eat live prey and veggies and fruits.
To keep from sending their food they want to eat into their pouch they have a special valve that opens and closes depending on whether it's eating or protecting its baby. Females only have one baby at a time and will not mate again until their baby grows up or dies.
Mantrice are curious and love to learn and have been found able to speak fluent languages of other creatures including humans. They are neutral and only attack unless they are threatened.
They use their large mantis like arms full of spikes to catch prey and eat them live and whole. Their necks also expand to swallow large prey along with their stomachs.
Mantrice can fly though they prefer to walk or climb.
During mating season males will roar and do a display with their wings, arms, and a dance to show the females their strength and maleness. If a female accepts she will mate and leave, but if she doesn't and the male persists she will eat his head off and the other females will devour the males body.
Baby Mantrice have a special call so if they get separated from their mothers or in danger they can call all the females in a three mile radius to help as they can only run away from danger
and hope to hide before their caught. They typically walk on all fours but will walk on two hind legs if they feel the need to be aggressive looking or just if they want to. Mantrice's ears cannot move as they are stuck in a side position. They use their antenna to feel around and sense vibrations. To keep air circulating to their babies in the pouch the pouch has special cells that put air into the pouch.
