It was an early Thursday practice. I would skip cross country to march in the parking lot. To prepare, I oiled my trombone and then I headed outside with the rest of my band members. I stood as left guide in the block, putting two freshmen in the middle of Megan and I. Megan today was covered in layers of clothes. She looked like a plump marshmallow instead of usual thin self.
"Are you cold?" I asked her before we did our warm up.
She nodds as she begins to blow into her horn.
We eventually started the grueling practice and I walk in step and try to concentrate on my music that I had memorized a week ago.
"Left, two, three, four," I said in my head multi tasking. The song this year was very difficult compared to last year easy piece.
After multiply laps around the parking lot we headed in and our band teacher went over up coming events. Afterwards I head into the cafeteria for my morning stress session with my friends. Amber and May were doing their normal gossip session but this morning they were also having a conversation with my biggest rival; Jane Silky.
Jane Silky and I have never really liked each other even if we never truly admitted to each other. Jane and I was a never ending battle started way back in middle school. We always have been competing for the fifth spot on the basketball. Her height and popularity vs. my quickness and hard work.
What makes me dislike her even more is that it not only just a computation it very personal in her eyes. I used to be a lot more social in middle school, but Jane changed that . She would go out of her way to butt me out of the conversation. Jane would aways talk down to me both physical and with words. She would talk about events that she knew I didn't go to. I would become quiet and only listen. She tried to be the sweet innocent, but I've seen what she done.
After many mounths I couldn't deal with that any more so I just stopped communicating with those girls. I made new friends over the years, but they always end up migrating to another group or moved. I guess you could call Amber, May, and Kara my "group" but I feel like Amber and May are social butterfly that float from group to group and poor Kara has had a rough life. Most of Kara friends are from other schools anyway.
My thoughts were broken by the bell and I wondered through the halls before starting my day.
"Morning conversation fail two," I think to myself.

It was lunch already and after a whole morning of notes, music, and worksheets; I was ready for a break. I brought my lunch again and slide into our half way full table. Amber, May, and the boy from yesterday, who I found out was named Brian were already at the table.
Brian was shoveling his face with the schools whole grain macaroni and scooted over his two chicken patty burgers that he had bought on the side which were obviously left over from yesterday. With that sight I made sure to leave plenty of room between us.
Amber and May had a paper out and May was instructing how to fill it out to Amber.
"So you put your name and your age here," May instructed, "Then you need your parents signature, twenty dollars, and your done."
I tried to stretch my neck to see what they were doing but Amber lifted it up to quick for me to see it.
"This is going to be so exciting," May said hugging Amber.
"What is it," I asked.
"Amber and I are going to this fun church lock in event next weekend," she said with a big smile, "and it going to be so much fun!"
