It was 16th October, 2 years ago. I was with the best person in the world, walking at night. It was lovely. That was, of course, before the usual bad ending.
"Laura!" I shouted as she sped down the road. "Laura, come back!"
"Come here, Vanessa," she replied, edging closer and closer towards the usually busy main road.
"NO! Laura, it isn't safe!" I was screaming louder now, tears running down my cheeks. But she still ran down. Of course she did, she was Laura. She took risks, did things that no one dared to do. She spoke up for herself. Unlike me. I was the complete opposite. I would get pushed around and never speak up. No, I relied on Laura for that.
Laura paused and turned to face me. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she was finally listening to me, but, no, she was laughing. "Oh, Vanessa, it's perfectly safe! See?" she giggled, taking a few steps back.
That's when it hit her. The black van.
And that's the story of how I lost my best friend.
