"UA high school has the best hero program in the entire world! Wouldn't you rather I have a good education so that I'll know how to protect myself?"
"The best protection is prevention. I don't want you to be a hero."
"Dad! You have known I was going to be a hero since I was five years old! I don't want to have this conversation again!"
"Pfft, that's just a child's dream, you couldn't have been serious."
Angel rolled her eyes in frusturation at her father, her aura glowing fiercely. She knew this was going to happen, but she still had hoped that some sense would wash over him. She hated arguing with him, she hated aruging in general, but with him it felt like going in circles.
"Dad, you have been training me. I am ready."
"I've been training you for self-defense, not for you to go looking for trouble."
"It's not looking for trouble, it's saving people. I was given a powerful quirk and I want to put it to use, It's..."
She trailed off, her aura softening. No matter how heated this got, she wasn't going to say what she was really thinking. She wasn't going to hurt him by bringing up mom, even though she really wanted to.
"It's what?"
"Nothing... Just, please. Please. Please. Please."
She started begging then, clasping her hands and giving her father puppy-dog eyes. She knew he hated begging, but she had to be a hero, she couldn't imagine being anything else.
"That's not going to work", her father said, but already his eyes were softening.
"You'll be there to keep me safe."
"Not forever."
"But during high school at least."
After a pause, "and I'll get the very best training so that I can be as good a hero as possible."
"Then when you graduate you'll be a top choice for scary agencies in scary locations."
"But I promise I'll choose a nice, safe, rural area after graduation. Really." Her aura spiked a little at that lie, and she hoped her father didn't notice.
"I saw that."
Curse my dad and his impossible level of observance. She could never get away with anything.
"Ok, ok... we'll cross that bridge when we get there?" She said hopefully.
"We're not getting there."
She rolled her eyes, this was going nowhere. She looked past her father, into the kitchen of their small apartment. Right there on the counter was a pen, which gave her an idea. "I'll be right back," she said as she ran into her room, her aura glowing a happier color now.
She dug through her closet, searching, searching....
"Aha!" She held up the crinkled paper with the word 'contract' written on top.
I, Angel Aizawa, will be allowed to become a hero if I so choose. No one,
not even my father, Shota Aizawa, will be allowed
to stop me.
signed: Angel Aizawa
Date: October 12, 2090
Signed: Shota Aizawa
Date: October 12, 2090It was a crude contract, written up by a six year old Angel and an aggravated Shota, who never imagined his daughter would have kept that for nearly a decade. But, a promise is a promise, especially to her father. She grinned ear to ear and sprinted back out to the common room, where her father was standing confused.
She waved the paper in front of his nose, and he grabbed her wrist to still it long enough to read. His eyes narrowed, she could tell he was thinking. Finally, finally, he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Ok," he softly muttered.
"YES, YES, YES!"
"I won't stop you from applying to UA, but you have to get in there on your own, I won't pull any strings."
"I wouldn't want it any other way," then she giggled, grabbing her father in the biggest hug she could muster. Her aura glowed vibrantly, and she didn't let go of her dad until he patted her head and told her she was blinding him.
"Oh. Right... sorry," she said, pulling away. Her dad wasn't exactly the most touchy-feely, so hugs like that were rare, but she was just too damn happy to care. "I think I should go by a different last name, just so that people don't think I only got in because you're my dad."
"What name were you thinking?"
"Himari, it means ball of light... so...."
Her father smirked at that, looking down before looking up again, "ok."
And with that, the only thing Angel had to worry about now was preparing for the entrance exams.
