ALICIA CERVANTES was drowning.

SHE TRIED and tried ever since she was a kid. Try your best, her parents would tell her. She followed through with that through high school, college, medical school, and now with her in a surgical residency. Her dream was to be in the Cardiology wing of the hospital, running around like the place was her kingdom and she controlled everything the light touched.

Finishing her internship, Alicia had gotten in the good graces of all her attendings. Trauma, Ortho, Peds, Neuro, OB, and most importantly, Cardio. She was destined to be Preston Burke's protégé, the next him. Learning from him was an honor, and she couldn't wait to continue the journey.

Now, she was standing behind the doors of a church, watching the clock as her close friend was having a nervous breakdown, about to wed. Alicia turned to Cristina, placing a hand on her shoulder blade.

"Cristina..."

"No, I can't do this, Ali."

"Yes, you can." Meredith nodded, handing her her bouquet.

"Ooh. It looks so pretty in there." Izzie whispered, peaking inside the church. "I see Burke." She moved her head, turning to the bridesmaids before returning her attention to the beautiful venue, smiling at the flowers.

While Callie and Alicia were helping Cristina fix the back of her dress, Alex exited the church and whistled at the soon-to-be-bride. "Yang...the twins look nice in that dress."

Cristina deadpanned, "Thank you. Sort of."

Alicia rolled her eyes, moving over to Alex and fixing his tie. "And another five dollars to the Douche Bag Jar when we go home."

"Maybe." Alex shrugged, swatting her off of him. I gotta go. I gotta check—"

"You're on call?" Cristina's eyebrows bounced downwards in confusion, not understanding. Dr Bailey had said all of them would have the day off.

"Wait, Alex. Did you see George in there?" Izzie popped her head from behind the door, hands grasping the knobs very tightly. Alex ignored her, leaving in a hurry. "I don't see him."

""Scuse me..." A raspy voice spoke, shuffling through the doors. Alicia looked up to see Mark, the man's eyes filled with hope. Izzie let him past, opening the door just enough to let him through. Mark gently grabbed ahold of Alicia's forearm, whispering, "We need to talk."
