Sam. the name had never felt right for him. Sure it was short for Samuel Dexter Winchester, and he was named after a great man who raised his mother in the life that she and Sam both grew to hate. But it still never felt right. Probably because he never felt right in his own skin. And laying in Jessica's arms did nothing to make Sam feel any better about the skin he was born in. Jessica. The only good thing Sam has after leaving his brother and father. She's the one who understands when he has to spend hours on the phone with Bobby because he just needs to hear a voice from his old life. She's the one who knows him better than he knows himself, he should be able to tell her how he feels. But why is it so hard?
"You know, you don't have to pretend to be masculine, I like the feminine side of you," Jessica said. She was laying on an air mattress they borrowed from Jessica's mother. Sam had his head on her chest. It's the first night of them living together, they've only been dating for less than two weeks, but it feels right. "I like my feminine side too," Sam said. That was the first time he had ever said it out loud, but it felt right, and it felt nice to say. It even felt freeing. "You know, you can be whatever you want to be, I love you no matter what," Jessica said. Why did it sound like she was reading his mind? "Why don't I feel like a guy?" oh god, why did he have to ask that? Sam's face reddens, and he wants to hide under the covers forever. Wait? When did he pull the covers over his face?
Jessica laughed a little and moved the covers away from his face, "it's ok Sam, do you want to be a girl?" Jessica asked. Nervously Sam nodded. "Alright, that wasn't so hard was it?" Jessica smiled. There was absolutely no judgment in her voice, only pure and raw acceptance and love. Why couldn't his father be like that? Sam shook his- her head. "Ok, so what do you want to be called?" Jessica asked, "Samantha" was all Samantha could muster out, she felt the tears come to her eyes and Jessica whipped them away. "Don't cry baby," she said.
"What did I ever do to deserve you?" Samantha asked, her arms were wrapped tightly around Jessica's small waist and Samantha was squeezing her just as tightly. "You exist, that's what you did," Jessica said. "Get some sleep baby, we got shopping to do tomorrow," Jessica said. She knew it would be hard for Samantha to try on clothes, they didn't have to try them on there though, they could always take them back, and if it was needed, Jessica would pretend they were for her. It would be ok, Samantha would be ok. Samantha went to sleep with the thought of wearing a wedding dress and Dean walking her down the aisle in her mind.
It was the best sleep Samantha ever had.
(A/N: please don't cry, guys)
