A Doll's Save

Shadow sits on a couch, seeing adults with pitful expressions on their faces. He crosses his arms, hearing their words replay. They claim repeatedly Maria's status isn't his fault. That his best friend, his sister staying in a blank room with nurses and doctors checking on her isn't his fault. He couldn't had saved her, they claim. The strangers claim a false reality. For most, their friends and family would join in, but his don't. They know he could've saved her, but still there is no blame towards him.

He walks to the counter, a annoyed look on his face.

"You should be at school, not visiting", the person begins.

"This is the only time I'm allowed, weekly", Shadow replies.

"I know. You explained that. It remains a fact that I can't", the person replies, kindly before picking a phone. Shadow watches her expression become distant as she informs", see her. She deserves at least that".

The hedgehog walks to Maria's room, fearing the worst with their pitful expressions becoming sorrowful expressions. He opens the door to see a doctor talking to Maria. His every word brings rage into the hedgehog.

"Maria, what's wrong"? Shadow asks, worriedly.

Maria stares down, the words needed impossible to seek. She brings her hand toward her face, finally feeling fear. Shadow was always able to save her, now he can't. Now the one with that ability is non-verbal and her former enemy.

"I'm sorry, Shadow. She keeps living, your friend will", the doctor begins.

"If she lives organically. They will end her, claiming it was a accident. There is a way to save her. A way for her to join her best friend for all time. It just depends if her friend will accept a fox clone's offer like she did", Doll's tablet interrupts.

Shadow forces the possiblies back. It isn't worth the risks. Her life isn't worth risking her mind. But living with her forever, never experiencing her passing, never fearing it occuring.

"Do it. Save her", Shadow replies.

Doll walks toward the girl, taking a deep breathe before beginning the progress. The hedgehog watches, horror gripping him until asking one question after", who I am".

"Shadow The Hedgehog, my best friend, brother and caretaker", Maria answers, kindly.

"See, she's fine. If she needs repairs, come to me or Tails", the tablet informs.

"Got it. I'll keep that in mind. Come on, Maria. Let's test out your systems", Shadow says, smiling.
