—————————————————————The next years passed in a dreamy haze of cherished family memories.
Content with their small cottage by the sea, the Snape family thrived.
Severus went to work while Lily stayed home and cared for Harriet.
Once she grew old enough, while Severus spent his hours teaching at the castle, Lily gradually returned to the ocean for longer periods of time and took Harriet with her.
Mother and daughter were always careful to be waiting at home when Severus arrived back each night though, after which the family would share dinner together and discuss their days.
Severus would regale his ladies with tales of what mishaps he had encountered at the castle, then Harriet and Lily would explain everything they had seen in the sea.
Harriet slept with a peaceful smile on her face each night while Severus and Lily spent most evenings coupling in the privacy of their room before they settled down to sleep.
Severus put his mind at ease and rested each evening while Lily laid awake for an extra hour.
The ocean water she absorbed through her skin reduced her need for slumber.
Besides, the excitement of seeing her mate made it impossible for her to sleep without spending a few minutes gazing at him.
One night, before she closed her eyes, while Severus laid silently asleep, Lily climbed on top of him and let her long, trailing, red tresses sweep over his exposed chest as she pressed a heated kiss to his mouth.
Content with Severus's taste on her lips, Lily smiled contentedly while she settled herself.
After she moved to lay on his shoulder, she closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep, dreamless sleep.
Her mate was perfect.
Their daughter was perfect.
Their home was perfect.
Lily laid a hand over Severus's beating heart as she sighed and let his promise from years ago echo through her mind:
"We'll always be us, right, Sev? You and me? Severus and Lily?"
"Of course, Lily. We'll always be us."
—————————————————————
Before Severus or Lily realized, over a decade had gone by since Harriet's birth.
One August morning, they found themselves standing with their daughter on Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
The white owl Harriet had adopted sat on top of her wooden trunk in a rounded cage.
"You're going to love Hogwarts, sweetheart!" Lily beamed as she gave Harriet a tight hug, "Be kind and study hard, alright? Don't worry, your father will be right there if you need anything."
"Thanks, Mum." Harriet smiled as she returned her mother's embrace before she turned to hug Severus.
After she wrapped herself around him, Severus patted his daughter's back as he stared down at her with a frown.
"If you find yourself struggling with any subject, come to me immediately." Severus nodded at Harriet, "......And I will ensure you have all the assistance you need."
"Thanks, Dad.......I love you both very much." Harriet nodded as she smiled at Lily and Severus.
"And we love you, sweetheart." Lily replied as she cuddled against her husband.
A second later, the whistle blew on the Hogwarts Express.
Harriet waved goodbye to her parents before she turned and boarded the train with the rest of the waiting students.
"She's going to do really well, Sev." Lily smiled as she laid her face and palm against her mate's chest.
"I'll watch over her, my love, you needn't worry." Severus whispered in a velvet purr.
As Lily reached up and kissed Severus's thin lips, Harriet walked down the train's narrow hallway while she searched for an available compartment.
"Hello....." A voice called out.
Harriet stopped and turned to blink at a dark-haired boy who smiled at her from one of the compartments she had just passed.
It flustered her to notice how unbelievably handsome he seemed with his dark eyes glistening and his soft curls framing his angular, unblemished face.
".........H-Hello." Harriet smiled back.
The boy nodded, "You can sit with me, if you like. I'm a first year.....and-"
"-Really?! I am too!" Harriet exclaimed as she rushed over to the boy.
The boy smirked and resumed his seat as Harriet entered the compartment.
He watched her sit down across from him with a smile, but she thought nothing of the black diary he held in his hands.
"I'm Harriet Snape." She nodded as she introduced herself.
While Harriet gazed at the boy, a strange, overwhelming urge to possess him ate at the edges of her nerves.
The sensation was unfamiliar and uncomfortable to Harriet, though Lily would have gladly told her daughter she had experienced those same feelings towards Severus at her age.
"It's lovely to meet you, Harriet Snape." The boy replied with a handsome grin, ".......I am Tom Riddle."
