"Asami, this is Korra."

Looking back now, Asami realized that she was ruined the second she met those deep blue eyes. She wasn't delusional enough to believe that this was entirely anyone's fault but her own, but Mako did have a certain measure of culpability. It was his idea to recruit Korra, wasn't it? He hired her and, if he hadn't, Asami would probably never have met her at all. None of this would've happened.

Asami Sato was a big fan of pro-bending from childhood. It was obvious, then, that when the opportunity came for her to sponsor a promising team of two brothers, an earthbender and a firebender coming out of poverty and into stardom in the ring she jumped at it. Future Industries certainly had the money to spare, and the Fire Ferrets certainly paid back the investment with their popularity and skills. Asami had even found herself a boyfriend in the handsome firebender brother, Mako. All was well, at least until their third member left, leaving the team one short of a full set right at the entrance of the biggest tournament they ever got to take part in. They had auditions, of course, which eventually resulted in the recruiting of a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe. Asami went gladly to meet the new recruit.

She was not ready for what she found.

Korra had the same dark hair, light brown skin and blue eyes expected of a Water Tribe native, but Asami had never seen anyone who wore those attributes so well. Shorter than Asami herself (though admittedly most women were), Korra was stocky, wore simple clothes and no makeup whatsoever... and she was absolutely gorgeous. Her arms, visible thanks to the fact that, as Asami would learn in time, the girl seemed to be allergic to wearing sleeves, were a thing of beauty with the large, well formed muscles of a genuine athlete. Her back was wide, with visible peaks and valleys even under her light blue shirt, but even with all this build she was still as feminine as they came, having some nice curves, long hair she kept tied both down the sides of her face and at a high ponytail and, of course, breasts that put Asami's own rather nice pair to shame even under that sporty blue shirt that was obviously holding back the goods. Her face was the crown jewel of this fine specimen, with big blue eyes that looked fierce and intense even as Korra smiled charmingly and shook Asami's hand in a warm, firm grip.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Sato," she said. Asami loved her voice: clear, intense... if there ever was a voice that denoted power in itself, this was it.

"And you, Korra," Asami answered, holding on to that strong hand, smiling. "You're from one of the Water Tribes, I suppose?"

"Southern," Korra explained. "First time in the big city like this. Must be weird for someone who grew up here to imagine, huh?"

Asami, born and raised in Republic City, knew Korra was talking about her. Curious that she knew that Asami had lived here her whole life, though it wasn't unreasonable to assume Korra didn't know about the famous Sato family or Future Industries just because she was from the South Pole.

Their talk flowed easily after that, from Asami and Korra getting to know each other to Mako joining in to vouch for Korra's skill as a waterbender, and Asami managed to be discreet enough to not make it noticeable how hard she was staring at the firm biceps on the new girl's arm whenever she raised it or moved it for any reason. Korra, as it turned out, was also very nice and friendly, if a little tactless, and her laughter came easy and natural. She would be a nice addition to the team, Asami reasoned, and maybe some nice eye candy to be enjoyed from the safe distance of her already having a boyfriend. Nothing would go wrong, the Fire Ferrets would win the championship and Mako and Asami would have a lot of fun celebrating that conquest.

---X---

Another victory. By knockout. Asami couldn't be more proud.

Not to take away credit from the two brothers, but Asami knew that Korra was largely responsible for the Ferrets' third victory by knockout in a row; the girl was a beast, strong and fierce as an earthbender, swift and relentless as a firebender, moving with the grace of an airbender that made her almost impossible to hit. She made it look so easy that Asami suspected she had yet to break a sweat in a pro-bending match. Having such a skilled athlete in her team filled the Sato girl with joy... and more than a little dread at the thought that Mako would fully expect her to be in their post-match celebratory bar night. Far from just a sponsor, she was his girlfriend after all. Unfortunately this also meant spending time with Korra.
