Note: I did change the timeline of the show slightly here just because I wanted to have Finley deal with Kyler and I know Miguel would try to hop in.
The cafeteria was filled with chatter, but Finley wasn't listening to any of it. She was sitting by herself, as she had been for the past 2 weeks, and although she generally zoned out everyone and everything in the cafeteria, this she could not ignore. Her eyes were locked on Demetri who was precariously balancing his lunch tray on his cast. Part of her was honestly hoping it would tip and his lunch would fall on the floor.
What? He was a jerk for not listening to her, it would be funny, and there was no real harm in it happening. But as she watched, her eyes widened, seeing the collision with Kyler coming a mile away. She wanted to slap Demetri upside the head, couldn't he just pay a little more attention to where he was walking and avoid this?
A heavy breath left her nose as she continued watching the scene unfold from where she sat. Her eyes drifted to her ex-table where Yasmine and Moon were sitting with the Miyagi-Dos. Sam had been absent all day, and although Finley could see the entirety of the table's inhabitants were watching the interaction as well, they didn't move. Demetri was one of their own, but Kyler, well Kyler was bad enough, but now he had Cobra Kai backing him up. Standing up to him was inciting a war, and everyone knew it. And honestly, without Sam, Miyagi-Do stood no chance against the snakes.
Another sigh escaped Finley as she went back to watching the scene unfold. No one was going to step in and help him, no one was stupid enough to take on Kyler, let alone the possible wrath of Cobra Kai. And she definitely wasn't going to, after all, Demetri still wasn't talking to her after the whole movie night at Eli's thing. But from where she sat, she could see the defeat on Demetri's face, and the humiliation that arose as Kyler held up the cast for everyone to see. She mentally groaned- why did she have to be friends with this idiot?
As the cafeteria burst into laughter at Kyler's joke, Finley got to her feet and walked over to them. "Well at least he isn't one."
"What'd you say?" Kyler's hardened gaze turned to face the newcomer.
"Nothing." Finley began to turn, her gaze now focused on Demetri. "Come on, let's go."
The lanky boy looked at her with slightly widened eyes, shocked that she had suddenly appeared by his side. However, any questioning response he had to her presence was nixed off by the bully.
"Hey!" Kyler's hand shot and grabbed Finley's arm, effectively cutting off her plan of escape. "Who do you think you are?"
Finley looked down to where his fingers were likely bruising her forearm before trailing her gaze back up to meet his own. "Let go of me."
The laughter in the cafeteria had died down, and she could feel the eyes beginning to shift back to Kyler, back to where the action was. But the last thing Finley wanted was action, all she wanted was to get out of there with Demetri.
"I'm just trying to talk with you." If that was all he said, Finley likely would have kept her clear head, but he opened his mouth again. "Although maybe you don't know what it's like to talk to other people considering you have no friends and eat lunch by yourself like a loser."
Part of her expected the cafeteria to break into an "oooo shots fired" type of reaction, but they didn't. Perhaps it was because over half of them had no idea who she was. Regardless, if he was going on the verbal attack, then so was she.
"Oh you want to talk? I didn't realize, that's on me." The sarcastic apology quickly took a turn. "It's just really hard to tell considering you're constantly running your mouth."
