"Welcome, Alex," the deep voice booms as I enter the room.
"Yeah, yeah, you broke me down last time, but this time I've mentally prepared! Show me what you got!" I shout confidently, when a spotlight appears in the middle of the dark room. I walk up to it, and see a small book.
"Read it aloud, please," the voice commands, and I flip it to the first page.
"There once was a girl," I start, "A girl with little friends. This girl was once walking home to see her mother after a long day of school, when suddenly, she was taken away from her normal life. She'd been dragged away to what she understood as reality, and was brought into another. Though she was familiar with this world, yes, there still was challenges she had to face. Challenges only the bravest and strongest of people could handle. Sadly, however, she was not the strongest or bravest, and failed to complete her tests. Her life had come to an awfully painful end, but the only thing going through her mind, you ask?
'How can I assist my friends?'
"So the girl, even after death, tried to save her friends, yet still, she failed to succeed. She got to watch in horror as they all were carried away. Burned one by one. Even her lover was washed away of his own demise, not by any exams. She cursed at the sky, and begged for another chance. She was left to walk the earth with the painful memories, unable to change or forget them. It was all over for her. She was left. All... Alone..." I finish, closing the small book, and set it on the ground.
"That was supposed to be about me, wasn't it?" I ask.
"That's for you to find out, Alex, it for now, let the thoughts graze your mind. Now get out, before I drop you into an active volcano," the voice threatens, and I start walking towards the door.
"Too late!" it teases, and the ground beneath me suddenly disappears.
"Well that was-" I dodge falling rocks from above me, as the walls around me turn to a fiery magma. "RUDE!" I scream, and hang onto a ledge. I spot the door a couple feet above me. This is a part of the test. It's possible to make it out alive!
I'm barely able to lift myself into the rock, but I manage. I suddenly feel like I'm in the Legend of Zelda, Wind waker, when you're in the lava palace thingy and you need vases full of water to turn the lava back to stone so you can jump across. The only problem is, there's no water. And the lava is rising.
"SCREW IIIT!!!" I shout at the top of my lungs, running and jumping into the next ledge, closely falling to my death. So close, that the laces on my converse were burned off..
Now, with the lava a couple feet lower below me, it's a tiny bit less stressful to leap to the next one, but I can tell it's farther away. The adrenaline pumps through my veins, and the increasingly hot air around me is causing me to sweat buckets full. I remove my sweater, revealing a tank top I had thankfully worn to school, and toss it into the next ledge. It makes it easily.
"If that made it, that means I can make it, too, right..?" I try to motivate myself, but it isn't working.
"AHHHHHHH!!" I scream at the top of my lungs, and reach the ledge, thankfully reaching the top. Just above me sits the door, and I climb inside, falling to the ground on the cool tile laid out on the floor. I stagger to my feet, and flip off the area.
"FUCK YOU, GUY! WHOEVER YOU ARE! I BEAT YOUR STUPID GAME! WOO!" I shout, and try to catch my breath. The group is in the corner, staring at me in shock, horror, and amazement.
Suddenly, Jeremy appears out of nowhere, and hugs me close to his chest. I can feel myself blush slightly, and he lets go.
"Don't die on me, okay..?" he whispers, and I nod.
"I won't," I say, but I wish I could be sure I can keep that promise..
