Ares walks into her school's field area with her normal smile plastered on her face. She walks her blue bike over to the bike rack. She slips it into one of the slots and puts her lock on it.
"Ares!" she hears a familiar voice exclaim, "Happy birthday!".
She turns to the girl in response, "Hey Rue.".
"What are you doing tonight?" Rue asks.
"I'm probably just going to stay home with my mom." she explains.
"Fair enough, but tomorrow I'm taking you out for food." she smiles in response.
"Is it a date?" Ares snickers.
"No, I'm not gay." Rue pauses, "I think...".
This causes Ares to laugh more, "You're a mess.".
"And you're the only one in class who's not." she sighs, "How do you always smile like that?".
Ares just shrugs in response.
"Hey you two." a boy says as he walks up to them.
"Hey Amos." the girls chirp at the same time.
"You're fourteen!" he exclaims, turning to Ares.
"Yeah, way before you." she snickers.
"Hey." he rolls his eyes, "You're not allowed to make fun of my December birthday.".
"I'm making fun of you for being the baby of the class." she smirks.
"I would hit you if you weren't a girl." he sighs.
The bell rings, "Nah, you would chicken out.".
He rolls his eyes as the three start walking towards where they have to line up.
"You know, next year we won't have to do this." Rue smirks, "One of the many advantages of being in high school.".
"We still have like two months left of school, I'm not thinking about that until way later." Ares sighs.
"Are you not excited to leave this dump?" Rue asks.
"I mean, somewhat." she sighs, "But I'm too rigid minded for that, me and the new schedule will not mix.".
"Well-" Rue gets cut off by a boy running over,
"I'm not late!".
"Did you stay up watching anime again?" Ares sighs, "Brennan, I told you not to do that, we have a test today for god's sake.".
"Well, I'm pretty used to that so I'll probably pass." he huffs with his hands on his knees.
"You said that last time and you somehow failed a simple French quiz." Rue notes.
"I said probably, that means it's not guaranteed. That's what we're learning right now for the test." he smiles, his breathing finally slowing down.
"We have a science test, don't know what you're on." Ares rolls her eyes.
The two others laugh at him.
All he can do is mutter, "Well, fuck.".
Ares can't help but sigh, "And I thought this time you would pass after I helped you study.".
The bell rings. A kid gets up to go get his lunch.
"Hey sit down!" the teacher commands, "The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do!".
