POV Princess Hailey
After landing at Heathrow Airport in London, Elias guided us towards the black BMW SUV while a man was loading our luggage in the car standing behind ours. After the dinner last week where I dropped the P-bomb on the royal families of Palmier and Cadmont, I requested King Artemis and Queen Helena to allow me to move to London soon. In an attempt to keep the news within our families, they agreed without any reservations. They, along with King Arthur and Queen Alice, have agreed to my and Adrian's request for some space and everyone thought it was for the best if I stayed away from Palmier for the time being.
In the aftermath of the dinner, Kara decided to spend some time away from Palmier too and her presence was another reason why I arrived in London more than a month before my course was scheduled to begin. After I had expressed my desire to continue my studies for some more time before joining the royal duties full-time, King Artemis pulled up some strings and got a seat for me for the 2022 Batch at University College London in the MSc course for Paediatrics and Child Health - Global Child Health. Since the medical practice was out of the question for me when I joined the royal duties, I decided to use my Royal status to its advantage and contribute to society and humankind in general.
Riding through the lanes of London, I realised that none of these opportunities would have landed in my lap if Adrian hadn't recognised the emblem in my bracelet that night. Barring the wish of having a family, I was happy with the life I had created back in India and only wished to attain credentials to further my cause of living a meaningful life where I can give back as much as I receive to the community.
Giving up my career aspirations to be in full-time service under the Crown in future wasn't an easy decision to make, but the desire to be surrounded by the family that I had always longed for was greater. To an outsider, it won't be much of a compromise as I would be working for the Crown anyway, but what they would fail to see is that my academic achievements and aspirations were all I had before knowing that I was Princess Hailey. For Dr Ishani Mitra, it was the biggest achievement of her life and her greatest aspiration in life.
Of course, I'll miss being a doctor, but this way I wish and believe, that I can to some extent negate the hurdles that a doctor faces in their day-to-day practice due to policymakers. Often, the rules and regulations meant to further the cause end up complicating the situation and I hope to find a middle ground for both sides.
I was still lost in my thoughts when we stopped in front of a long off-white building. Turns out, Harry has a two-floored (fourth and fifth floors) penthouse at Craven Hill Gardens which was only a fifteen minutes drive from UCL. As I couldn't stay at the university campus for safety reasons, it was suggested that I should rather stay here and since Kara had already lived here during one of her mid-summer internships in college days, she volunteered to show me around.
Elias guided us into the apartment and felt a shiver down my body at the vast display of luxury in front of me. Even though I have been living in luxury for the past two months, sometimes it still feels like a dream, just like the vast open floor plan before me.
