Would a rose
By any other name
Still smell as sweet?
If it changed names with the thistle
Would we still see the lovely flowers
Or the sharp thorns?
Would we make another flower represent
Our romanticized view of love?
Are we ever trying to paint love as beautiful
Flawless
Perfect
When, like the rose, it is imperfect
Flawed
Now always beautiful
And all the better for it?
If we didn't use these simple, beautiful words
Love
Rose
Would we realize that the things these words describe
Are not simple
At all?
