I groaned as my phone started demanding my attention, interrupting my somewhat peaceful sleep. I had been sick for a few days and I had been in bed for most of them.
I picked up my phone, seeing it was a text from my boyfriend, Daniel. A few texts, actually.
Baby wake up
Are you alive?
Dont be dead, I was going to bring movies
Wake up
You awake yet?
I shook my head, smiling and sent him a text saying I was awake. He didn't reply, which was unusual for him. He normally replied to my texts right away.
I started to fall back asleep when my bedroom door burst open.
"Your king is here!" Skip yelled, grinning widely as he held out his arms widely.
"What're you doing here?"
"Well my girl is sick and I need to take care of her. So I'm here to save you. I brought soup, movies, some ice cream and one of my jackets."
"Skip, I would kiss you right now."
"Who said you can't?" He leaned down, about to kiss me when I covered my mouth.
"I'm sick!"
"I don't care. It'll be worth it." He placed a soft kiss against the back of my hand, smiling.
"I don't want to get you sick."
"I won't get sick. And if I do, then you get to take care of me. Now, will you please let me kiss you?" He pouted, slumping slightly.
I sighed and removed my hand. "Fine. But I warned you."
He rolled his eyes and then leaned in to press his lips to mine. His fingers tangled in my hair for a few moments before he pulled away. "Don't you feel better now?"
"Yes, I do. Now, what'd you bring me?"
***
"I told you so." I bragged as I stood over a coughing Daniel.
"Well, now you get to take care of me."
I tucked him in, making sure he could barely move. "Now, I'm going to go make you some more soup. You stay in bed, got it?"
I pressed a kiss to his warm forehead then went downstairs to heat up some soup.
It hadn't been even been a full minute before I felt a pair of arms wrap around me from behind. I reached to stroke his hair, smiling to myself as I felt his lips press against the side of my neck.
"Why are you out of bed?" I scolded even though I didn't move from our position.
"I got cold."
"In all those blankets?"
He stayed silent, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"Well get back upstairs. I'll be up there as soon as this is warm."
"No. Let's stay down here and eat on the couch. I don't feel like walking up the stairs again."
"Fine. Go wait on the couch."
He kissed my cheek then went out into the living room. "But hurry!"
A few minutes later, the soup was warm enough. I took it to him, setting the bowl down on the table. "Here. Now what do you want to do?"
He pulled me down into his strong arms, holding me against him. "Sleep."
I cuddled into his arms, smiling to myself. "My poor baby. So sick."
He laughed then went into a dramatic pout. "Yeah. It's all your fault."
"You're the one who kissed me. You said it would be worth it."
"It was. But now you have to kiss me." He puckered out his lips, leaning closer.
"No! I just got over being sick!"
"I risked it and now you have to."
"Yeah and you got sick."
"Heather."
"What?"
"Just kiss me."
I sighed and then leaned in to quickly peck his lips. "There."
"No. That's not a kiss. I want a real one."
"Make me."
He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine, his arms holding me still.
"I love you, even when you force me to kiss you when one of us is sick." I murmured as he pulled away.
"I love you too, even when you don't let me kiss you."
