ONE FINE DAY LITTLE CALIDTA RAN OFF TO PLAY WITH HER FURRY FRIENDS IN THE WOODS

Little Calidta told no one where she was going and she played till past curfew this had everyone worried. So they conducted a search party for her. They searched and searched, and searched and searched, but she was no where to be found. They ended their search when it was almost dawn and all went home sad that Calidta wasn't found.

Calidta woke up in a tree that is too big to be a tree, it was bigger than the room she shared with her seven sisters! As Calidta realised she was in a tree she tried to remember how she got there if it is even possible at all. She tried and tried all to no avail. The last thing she could remember was playing in the woods with her furry friends, Fori and Jajay, just before dinner time. Calidta got up with a gasp as she realized they are not with her and could be in danger. 'I have to help them' she thought, but how? when she doesn't even know where she is or how she got there much less how to help herself. She sighed, "my whole familia must be worried now" she said "and its all because of me. Ma always warns me to not go far" she says between sobs as she tries to hold back her tears "oh why didn't I listen" she starts crying without restraint until she eventually falls asleep.

The hoofs of many horses forcefully hitting the ground over and over as they ran, the sound of their riders shouting to each other and the sound of arrows being fired, was the alarm bell that woke up Calidta. Calidta opened her eyes and was quite shocked to see that she was no longer in a tree but on the ground in a beautiful forest so unlike any she had ever seen that it could best be described as Magical. It was surrounded  by the biggest trees she had ever seen and had the most beautiful flower of every colour and strange but undoubtedly beautiful plants.

She was partly covered by a huge fallen branch so the men in the forest couldn't see her. She looked between the leaves of the branch to see the men who were in the forest and as she did she could tell they were knights, although not knights of her kingdom as their knightly attire looks like something totally out of this world, the colours of it being gold and black, the entire gear being black, along with the long black flowing robe they wore, while the symbol of the kingdom, being a huge animal of some kind Calidta couldn't clearly see but beneath the branch, was pure gold along with the small brooches attaching the robe to the attire at the front on the left and the right shoulder. Even with the distance between her and the knights she could see how quality and strong the material of the knightly attire is. 'It must be totally impenetrable' she thought 'and also very expensive'. Even the king couldn't  possibly afford such and he holds the kingdom's gold!

Calidta saw the men were armed
with bows and arrows and it seem as though they are chasing game, probably a deer, 'for lunch'  she thought 'or maybe even breakfast or perhaps dinner'. At this she realized she had no idea of what the time may be, wherever here is. She contemplated coming out but, she knew better than to trust strangers especially men with big knives, also they could be bad men, knights of a wicked king.

She brought her head back down and decided to stay hidden in her spot under the branch till they leave.

It was already past sunset when Calidta crawled out from under the branch. The men were already long gone leaving her alone in the forest. She decided to explore the forest and find out where she is, everything here is so much bigger and much more colourful than the forest she was playing in back in Almatröd her village. 'Am I still in Cartija' she wondered. She was becoming very scared now and also very hungry as she the last time she ate was midday and that was like yesterday, she was on the verge of crying again but decided to be strong and find her way back home.

After walking for what seemed like an eternity to little Calidta, she saw a big tree and entered the hollow of the tree to rest as darkness had already fully set over the forest. As she went  further in to the tree, for it was a very big tree, she heard a sound that made her stop in her tracks. Breathing. Someone was already in the tree!

"Who is there?" She called out. Silence was the answer she got. "Who is there please?" She called again, louder this time but still no reply. She was getting really frightened and wanted to go back but, the night outside seem more scary than whoever may be in the tree. She mentally chided herself to be brave and went to meet the person instead. 'The person's probably just scared' she thought, rather hoped.

As she got closer the person moved farther and farther till the person hit the wall of the tree. Then Calidta stopped walking and said "I wouldn't hurt you. I just want to know who you are". As she moved again towards the person, she was able to see the person's face as the light from lightflies clustered at the wall of the tree shone on the person's face.

It's a girl only about a few years older than her but looking older due to hunger and suffering. The girl didn't answer Calidta, rather she just stared at her with eyes full of fear. She moved closer and  said " I am Calidta what is your name? ". The girl at her for a long time like she was trying to figure out if she had good or bad intentions, before reversing her gaze to the ground and saying in a very small voice " Baillie. I am Baillie. Or at least that's what my last owner called me".
"Baillie, that's a nice name" Calidta said. Then it hit her "what do you mean your last owner?" Calidta asked. Baillie raised her scared eyes to Calidta's face only briefly then continued gazing at the ground as she rephrased "my last master". Calidta still didn't understand, " were you his student?" Baillie didn't bother looking at her this time as she replied "why do you ask questions like you don't know what I mean". " Because I don't " said Calidta honestly. Baillie looked at her for what seemed like minutes with a look in her eyes that Calidta couldn't understand, before saying, "I was a slave".
