The first thing that I see when I open my eyes is the blank white expanse of the ceiling. It is nothing like the sky blue, decorated one I had in my old house. And I'm happy that it isn't. Sigh. I swing my legs off of the bed and trudge to my bathroom. Today is supposed to be a big day for me. Then why do I feel so reluctant to begin it?
As I brush my teeth, I sneak a peek at my reflection. I don't know what I expected but I feel a twinge a disappointment go through me. A dark skinned girl who looks younger than her nineteen years of age stares back at me. She has long, cascading waves of jet black hair and eyes like wet onyx which have been called exotic and beautiful. I scoff . I don't see the beauty. I only see the darkness of it all. Dark features , dark past and dark background. I shake my head in an attempt to throw away that thought. I came here to start over. I came here to create a sane life for myself. Once again I promised myself that I would never dwell in the past again. I come out of the shower and I put on my outfit of a deep marsala sweater which hung just below my bustline over a black , knee-length dress, black tights and brown suede boots. These were my standard colours. I stuffed my books into my Tory Burch satchel and headed out. The sky was a depressing shade of dark grey.
My prospects were looking great already.
