Chapter 1

Jasmine's POV

Growing up all alone can be very hard in this cruel world. My life started way before I was twenty one. It started when my parents was killed by a drunk driver. I was 10 at the time. I could understand what was happening but not really. All I knew was they were gone and never coming back. But somehow my granny was able to take me in her household. It was lot going on in that household. Granny was 76 trying to raise five kids who was constantly growing. She couldn't watch all us at the same time. It was me, my older twin cousin Kayla and Jayla, their big brothers Ka'Moni and Steven. Wondering how did granny end up raising five kids. Both of her kids my mom Kandace and her older son Jamal was killed. My cousin's mom didn't want anything to do with them after granny was unwillingly to give up the money their dad left for them. She wasn't no good for them anyway in my opinion. My cousin wasn't that much older than me. The girls was 12, Ka'Moni was 14, and Steven was 17. Steven thought he was the man of the house and everyone father. If Steven didn't prove of something, granny was not going for it. Granny basically let Steven take care of everything in the house such as bills, household items, and making sure we was straight. Steven had to grow at a young age. At first, I was clueless on how did he it. But it became very clear what he was doing after the money run out from uncle Jamal. He turn to the streets and somehow became a kingpin. He keep everyone in the house on lockdown as we got older. Saying he didn't want his street life to come hunting us down. I was cool with that rule anyway. It wasn't a thing out there for me anyway. I graduated high school and been building my clientele to do hair since 10th grade. Steven said if I'm real serious about it he'll help me open up my own shop. So right now I'm attending some college class to get my license.
