"It's not your fault Mikey....It never was."
Tears were making Mikey's vision blurry.
'How- how can you say that while smiling..." Mikey thought to himself. He knew it was his fault but couldn't help to right the boy's words.
"I'm sorry, I should've done a better job at saving you all and I shouldn't have gotten the others involved as well.....I hope you forgive me for my stubbornness, Manjiro...." The silence has never been this loud, Takemichi was no longer breathing. "Takemitchy? TAKEMITCHY?!" His scream broke the silence as the others broke from their trance and began to run towards the boy's lifeless body.
"NO!!" "No!" They cried in unison. "NO! Not him, not now." Mikey screamed as he ran faster than any of them. He tried to stop when he reached Takemushi and knelt down next to him. "Takemichi!, don't give up yet. We still need you!" Chifuyu cried, tears threatening to spill out his eyes.
His bestfirend had lost too much blood. He felt useless and could do nothing about the situation at hand. As he watched Mikey hold the lifeless body close to him, he remembered a conversation they'd had about this a year before.
"Chifuyu, thank you so much for being my friend and sticking with me in whatever dumb shit I do haha" Chifuyu remembered how Takemichi laughed as he gives him a light punch on the shoulder. "You're welcome man, anytime dude." He remembers how the other boy smiled as he gave him a hug. "But seriously thanks for sticking by my side and helping me through everything."
Takemitchi looked up from his spot where he was sitting near the lake that day.
Chifuyu started to cry even harder.
"Takemichi....don't leave us. Please...we still need you. Stay alive please, takemi..." he pleaded as tears streamed down his face, falling onto their intertwined fingers.
The only thing Takemichi could hear was his own heartbeat echoing throughout his head.
