Chapter 1, Emma's POV:

Hi my name is Emma. I am currently 15 years old and turning 16 in a few months. Let's start with some basics. I love books. I also used to surf... A lot. I stopped when I was 10 when I lost my mentor... My mother. Just a few weeks ago I lost my best friend and my favorite person ever, my twin sister Ava. Such luck my family has. I Lost the two most important people in my life besides my three brothers. My older brother Bryce is 17, he is going to be a senior. Oh that reminds me I'm a sophomore. My younger brother Seth who is 10 is going to be fifth grader Then there's my dad who is actually very young for having all these kids, he is only 35 years old, I know young. We all get a long great because we have all been through so much but because there is nothing for us in Pennsylvania and it has kept us some terrible memories we're moving to California. My dad has always thought that my brothers and I should be getting back into the water but I haven't been in since Ava died. Not one of us has and my father thinks it's time for us to, he bought us a house right across from the beach. I've decided that I would read less, start myself as a brand new person and only read a couple of times a week, that's what I started after Ava died I picked up reading. I think now I should be starting up surfing again, it was my favorite sport ever. Then once my mom died I took up reading soccer and gymnastics I still surfed every weekend though. I know horrible combination. I quite gymnastics right before we left, I may continue it in California but I have not decided, all I know is that surfing is what I will try. Anyways, we were on the plane when we first landed. Bryce and I look at each other, he nods. We get up and we begin walking out. Behind us followed my father and Seth. All of us children decided it would be funny if we skated throughout the airport, not even joking it's so much fun. My father even joined us. He makes skateboards and surfboards for a living. He is a pretty cool dad. My father pointed to a sign that said "Florence" that was us. A man brought us into a limo.
"Wow dad" he smiled. A weak one, the love of his life died. I haven't seen him actually smile ever since he got that call. That day was horrifying. I was at gymnastics. Level 7. (I was 10) My friends and I were all goofing off when my coach got a call. He walked over to his office and he asked me to come over, I thought I was in trouble. The words came out so suddenly.
"Your mother has gotten into a car accident, your father wants you stay here until level 6-8 leaves" I froze. I turned pale. My eyes started to fill up with tears. My coach hugged me. I decided it was a little car accident because my coach told me she would be okay. Just to make sure I texted her. I knew she wasn't going to respond but I knew she would be okay. She was a fighter, I continued Doing my tricks until 9 was dismissed. My coach had dereck (another coach) have a private session, Derek was a coach for the lower levels like 3-5 but he knew tricks. He had me doing back tucks and back handsprings leaps and giants. Once 6 was finally dismissed which was 10 at night because the spring jungle competition was coming up they had to stay late my coach offered to take me to the hospital. I couldn't say no so I threw on my vans and a sweatshirt over my gymnastic shorts and I grabbed my bag and phone and he took me there. My coach once again hugged me told me goodluck. I walked in and there was my dad. His eyes were red and puffy. That's when I knew she wasn't okay. A day later we got the news. "I'm sorry to say... Your wife sadly passed away 5 minutes ago." Those words froze me. The funeral too, was when I knew she wasn't coming back. I stayed in my room for a whole week and didn't come down once or even ate once. I remember one night seth came in crying at 2 am saying he couldn't sleep. I of course was still up sitting on the ground. That's when I knew I had to be good and be strong for, Bryce, Seth, and my dad. Bryce was about to lose it and I know I had to be strong to let everyone know that it was going to be okay. Seth cried in my lap saying how he misses the sweet kisses on the forehead that mom gave him. I didn't want Seth to grow up without a mom. My dad was holding everything in when I know he shouldn't, he knew he was upset and dead on the inside. The next day I woke everyone up and told them that we're going to school. They did not like the idea but still went. Bryce drove us in, be dropped off Seth first and I reminded him to smile because a smile can prove that you're okay on the outside even if you're not on the inside. We all gave him a hug as he ran off with his friends as they all hugged him. Then me and Bryce headed off to our high school we said our good things and headed off. My friends were all about caring for me today and even my ex that Had broken up with me the week before had helped me out and he told me he was sorry for breaking up with me and that he wants to be there for me because he knows how much pain I was in. But now we moved. We wanted to start a new life. Getting to the new house was full of anxiety. But once we got there it relieved me a lot of stress. The house was huge. Much bigger than my old one. I stepped inside and everyone allowed me to have the balcony room for keeping everyone together and strong. My boxes were already in here. A couple of hours of unpacking a knock came on a door. It was a family of 5. A boy that looked around my age, a girl that looked around 15? And a brother of the age of 12 maybe 13. and a mother and a father. They brought over brownies and introduced themselves, the boy looked like he didn't want to be here. They seemed to be very nice. The boy was hot and I soon found out his name was Wade a. My father and the mother and the father exchanged contact info as Wade looked at me in disgust. I rolled my eyes at how rude he was. I finished unpacking after 5 hours. I then fell asleep. I was woken up to thundering and Seth  coming into my room. The next day I decided to go outside and explore what the California beaches were really like. I know my father and wades father were planning to hang out and get to know each other and see if they have any interests cough cough football. If you were wondering I decided to stick with gymnastics and start up surfing. I saw that Wade was outside with his friends so I went the other way but I brought Bryce with me. We skated down to Main Street.
"So Em, how do you like this California weather?" I looked at Bryce.
"Better than Pennsylvania that's for sure!" Bryce laughed his fake unhappy laugh. "Do you think our family will ever be happy again?" Bryce stopped and looked at me unsure at my question. He pulled me over to the bench right aside from the beach.
"Em, this family... We stick together. We will be happy again, we just have to give it time till we realize that mom is in a better place. We may be unsure with the decision but we will realize that god only takes the good people because he wants them to be Angels because they had an angel personality. This family is happy but we have to figure out how to move the rock of unhappiness that's in our way." Bryce looked at me. I couldn't have agreed more. I hugged him and we continued. We looked at all the sights and I mean all. We headed back home at 5 and my father informed me that we will be eating over our new friends house. I figured out that their last name was Walker. I put on maroon High waisted shorts and a black flowy tank top with my white sandals. Seth had on a flamingo button up with his khaki shorts and his vans. Bryce had on navy blue button up with red khaki shorts and vans. My dad had on khaki pants and a nice shirt. We headed over as my dad brought over some stuff and the lovely mother answered the door. She welcomed us all in as the father as known as mike was grilling and she was getting the salad and toppings ready. My father went out to mike as Seth went with the brother who's name I just found out was joe. Bryce went out with my father and mike and I was stuck with the daughter. She had nice white skinny jeans on and a yellow tank top with white sandals. Her name was Olivia. She was nice and a softmore along with Wade. Olivia showed me around her house and she knocked on coltons door.
"Wade! Get outside right this instance!" Olivia yelled and then barged in.
"Mind knocking won't you bit-"Wade said and as soon as he saw me stopped.
"Wade I swear to god I will one day punch you!" Olivia was mad.
"What do you even want?" Wade ignored me as best as possible.
"Our guests are here and I wanted to show you our new neighbor Emma because I'm pretty sure you were too busy doing nothing when we went over!" Olivia walked in more. I just stayed in the doorway. Wade was dressed in a flannels and khaki shorts.
"Fine I'll be down in a sec" Wade shut down his computer and walked over.
"God you're so arrogant" Olivia rolls her eyes.
"I wish you weren't my twin" the word twin threw me out. My face grew pale within a matter of seconds. Olivia looked at me.
"Emma are you okay?" I couldn't speak.
"What is wrong with her" Wade said in a 'I don't care' voice. Suddenly I was out of my trance.
"What? Yeah sorry.. It's just that the word twin throws me off" I say as quietly as possible. We walk onto Olivia's balcony as Wade goes downstairs to help his mother.
"What? Have you never met twins before?" She says laughing.
"No I used to have a twin of my own" Olivia looks at me.
"What do you mean used to?" Well what do you think used to means? ITS GONE!
"A couple of years ago I lost my twin sister Ava died of a wave incident when we were surfing, the wave impacted on her neck and it completely snapped and then I lost her" Olivia looks at me with upset eyes.
"Aw I'm so sorry Emma!" She has sympathy in her voice. "So why did you move here?" Olivia asks.
"Well about a few weeks ago I lost my mother due to a car accident and we decided that Pennsylvania was nothing but bad memories" Olivia has a shocked face.
"Oh my gosh!" She then hugs me like I've known her forever. Right in the middle of the hug her mother calls us down for dinner. We sit outside eating our hamburgers and hot dogs. This was probably the first time in awhile that I've actually had real dinner. The night was full of laughter and I've made a new friend. Wade on the other hand was a no friend but still hot. Too bad tomorrow I start my first day of school. I already have my outfit tomorrow. A dress! Oh boy was I excited...
