Li Beinian walked towards the study and knocked on the door. “Time to eat!”
Almost immediately, the door flew open.
Noticing how full of energy she looked, Mu Xichen reached out and drew her into his arms. He sniffed at her shirt and said, “That smells great.”
His voice was drowsy and the expression in his eyes was unfathomable.
She had no idea if he was referring to the aroma of the food or something else.
She blushed lightly and nudged him. “Behave!”
Mu Xichen said with a straight face, “In what ways am I misbehaving?”
Gu Mingye looked away, pretending he had not noticed anything and attempting to fade into the background.
It was rare for Li Beinian to cook, but she did it excellently.
Not only did the food taste good, it also had a unique flavor to it that made one reluctant to stop eating.
Gu Mingye was full of praises and even Mu Xichen ate an extra bowl of rice.
Li Beinian was smug as she nibbled on the fruit salad. “I’ll make you a Western meal tonight.”
When Gu Mingye heard this, he immediately straightened his face and said, “Sister-in-law, I’ve always known, you’re a virtuous woman. Look, not only are you pretty, you’re a skillful actress, and great at cooking. Our boss must have prayed hard for three lifetimes to have had the fortune of marrying you.”
Li Beinian agreed and said seriously, “Stay for dinner tonight.”
Gu Mingye immediately smiled and worked even harder to flatter her.
Mu Xichen and Gu Mingye seemed to have a lot to discuss. Li Beinian excused herself and retreated into the room to watch Liu Wei’s award-winning television program.
Liu Wei had acted in many television dramas and her performance had always been consistent.
After watching the movie, Li Beinian was naturally impressed.
She got up. The two men were still busy.
She brought them some coffee that she made and listened to their conversation for a bit.
Obviously, she didn’t understand the content of their discussion and didn’t find it interesting at all.
She thought about the menu for dinner while contemplating the finer points of acting.
Li Beinian had learned it before – the eight major cuisines in Xia Nation. Among them, she excelled at Cantonese cuisine. Later on, she had learned how to prepare Hunan cuisine and Sichuan cuisine.
But Li Beinian liked soup.
Not only were there all sorts of clear soup and superior stock in the Cantonese cuisine, but there were also thick soups found in Western cuisine.
Initially, she wanted to make cream of corn soup. However, having had corn soup in the afternoon, Li Beinian decided to do something different.
She even made another trip to the supermarket to buy pumpkins and made a cream of pumpkin and mushroom soup.
She also made seafood pizza, and a ham, mashed potatoes, and vegetable salad.
The steak was an extremely fresh cut from the supermarket.
Li Beinian asked them about their preferences, and decided for all of it to be prepared well-done.
After setting the table and putting on the final touches to the dishes, she was satisfied and called for dinner.
By now, it was almost 7 pm, a perfect timing for dinner.
She went upstairs and knocked on the door. Gu Mingye and Mu Xichen were still busy.
However, unlike the discussion in the afternoon, the two of them were now each engrossed in their own tasks.
Li Beinian walked in and said, “I’ve made dinner. Come and eat before you continue.”
Mu Xichen looked up at her, deep in thought.
Gu Mingye, on the other hand, was more straightforward and asked, “Sister-in-law, do you exhibit any signs whenever you dream?”
“What?” Li Beinian was taken aback for a moment. “What sort of signs?”
“For instance, getting a muscle cramp or foaming and such.”
Li Beinian was flabbergasted.
Before he could speak, Mu Xichen picked up a book and threw it at him.
Gu Mingye hurriedly dodged and shouted innocently, “That’s what happens in the TV shows!”
